Does that mean that 'New Rootes' is nicer because of it being newer?

I don't think there is any difference inside, as far as I'm aware both lots of rootes blocks have been refurbed a few times since they were built. So some blocks might be nicer than others if they have been refurbed more recently, but there isnt really a difference between old and new... other than new rootes looks nicer from the outside!

I believe there aren't any allocations it's whoever gets there first gets the best space. I'll be in Sherbourne too so I might see you there

Any postgraduate still looking for accommodation? I want to form a group of 4 people to rent a flat in a good area. Send me a private message if interested asap.

Woah, just got a shared room in Westwood! Don't really mind though, I'm just happy to be getting on campus! I was really worried there!
I wish they would tell me my roommate before arrival, however. At least so I could facebook the person and hi, so it wasn't such an awkward first meeting. :erm:

Lol I agree- in the same boat. Its going to be strange sharing a room with a complete stranger. But we will manage Im sure

When were the rooms assigned? Are they assigned after you accept your contract online, or after the 7 day cooling off period, or before all that? At what point do the wardens take into consideration the small statement we wrote about ourselves in the accommodation application form?

Are the beds single sized? And is anyone taking own bedding from home?

Yes, unless you're in Bluebell. I bought a new duvet cover, sheets, pillowcases etc but I'm pretty sure they supply you with a duvet in the room.

I'm not sure when someone actually decides which room you're in but officially you get told when you pick up the keys on arrival. However, in previous years it has been possible to look up your details in the student records to find out before then.

The actual halls you are in is decided automatically and randomly based on your preferences you ranked. After that has been decided a human would assign you a room based on your small statement and other information you put on the form.
I'm at Bluebell. To be honest a friend of mine said that it was a nice hall and that I should go for it, but after reading everyone claiming that it's pretty dead I'm not so sure anymore. I can be pretty outgoing, like to socialize and party hard. Is bluebell really that bad? From the fb page it seems pretty nice, but I don't know.

Would be glad if someone could give me some advice!

Guys I've been given accommodation in Jack Martin (yay) but I was wondering if there's WiFi available for our rooms? I hear we need an Ethernet cable... I need my laptop in bed :'(:confused:

Thanks in advance guys!

Guys, again a qs about wifi/internet stuff, it says that the ethernet thing is for RJ45 cables, I have an RJ11 cable, would it still work or not? If it doesn't work, then I'm guessing I'll just have to use the normal wifi available?

There's wifi available through out the campus including in the halls of residence, but it can get a little slow so each room has an ethernet cable port if you want a faster connection

You'll need an RJ45 cable to use the ethernet, but the wifi should be just as good. If you still really want/need to use the ethernet, RJ45 cables can be obtained pretty cheaply e.g http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wired--up-Ethernet-RJ45-Network-Cable/dp/B000I1T3ZE/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1379545372&sr=8-9&keywords=rj45
