AV is nice and central, and quite nice inside. Sherbourne is all nice and new, but a bit out of the way, and Heronbank is a bit quiet, generally. AV's probably the most social, Heronbank the least.

Great thanks for your help!

Hi guys, Im going to warwick next year to study Law. Im a bit stuck on what accommodation to choose from. I initially, before reading forums, had narrowed my choices down to sherbourne and heronbank. However from reading various forum posts it seems that a lot of you speak more positively about the others. All I am really looking for is a friendly, sociable accommodation where I can make long term friends, and an ensuite would be pretty handy too. Just in response to my post, where would you guys suggest. Maybe some current or previous students could share their stories?
Thanks!
Hi guys, I'm looking at JM, do you see it as an issue that there's no common room?
Review for Cryfield.

I currently live in Cryfield and will be sad to leave. I have also visited all of the other accommodation blocks and think Cryfield is best value for money.

Don’t be put off by the bad reviews, they are deceiving and some of which is wrong anyway.
-It isn’t cold. I was walking round in shorts in December. If anything in the summer it is too warm, like most accommodations.
-The rooms are not a great size but they have comfy beds, good storage and a big desk. They are not anything fancy but it is all you need. We found that we don’t spend much time in our rooms anyway as people are generally sociable and sit in the kitchen most evenings from day 1. The rooms also have sinks in them which come in VERY handy.
-The corridors are not the best. They are long and narrow but you don’t need nice corridors. If you want a nice corridor go pay 6 grand or whatever for bluebell (They have ridiculous multi-coloured lights if that’s what you are into). The corridors are actually quite cosy. Perfect width for sitting across and climbing.
-The kitchens are big with lots of people in them, 12 people to a kitchen, 2 sets of hobs, 1 oven and all general kitchen appliances. This number has never been a problem, people tend to eat at different times anyway. There are 2 kitchens on a floor and are opposite each other so kitchens tend to interact. The kitchens get cleaned 3 times a week so mostly don’t get that messy. The ground floor is a bit different They have smaller kitchens but have easier access to the common room with comfy chairs and sofas.
-Bathrooms. They are fine. There are more than enough toilets and showers. I have never had to wait for a free one in all of my time here. They are not dirty, cleaners check them every week day, giving them a proper clean every Tuesday and Thursday.
-There is a common room downstairs, nice for girly movie nights and parties. This is an extra, not all accommodations have one in the same way. For example bluebell have a very nice common room in one of the blocks, the other blocks don’t have one and from what I’ve heard it never gets used anyway.
-I live with 23 people and it has honestly made my halls experience the best it could have been! There’s always someone around for a chat, or support in the early hours when you’re stressing about work, and I’ve made the closest friends this year. Cryfield is also one of the only undergraduate halls to have Erasmus students, this year we had people from Italy, Germany, Canada, America, Japan and India. Meeting such a range of people made us love our time here, and even though they were only here for two terms we have made some of the closest friends, and always have someone to stay with if we decide to go travelling!
-The location is ace. It about 2mins from the SU, pass the burger van on the way. As it is across the road you don’t get the noise from the SU like in whitefields and Rootes. Not too far away from anywhere really.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend Cryfield, it’s incredible value for money, in a brilliant location on campus, very sociable and my whole floor think it’s the best decision we made!
Good luck!

All I would say is sherbourne and heronbank are further away. About 10min walk to main campus.
Heronbank seems to be the quieter one.

I'm a postgrad student starting autumn 2014.
Do postgrads generally go for the uni accommodation or do they find their own place?
I guess the price ends up being about the same?
If they only let you know about uni accommodation by mid-September or later, there is no time to find another place by yourself if you've been rejected or don't want the place they give you, so how do people usually solve this?

Hello everyone. I will start MSc Engineering Business Management in September. I have read almost all the pages on forum but I haven't decided on accomodation yet. Actually, i have a limited budget for accommodation. Do you have any suggestions about on campus od off campus accommodation? Which one is cheaper, more suitable...?

Hi,
I'll be starting as a first year undergraduate this fall. I really want an en suite so I wanted to know which should be my first option? I like socializing but not partying all the time. Also, I still haven't applied so is it too late now to secure an en suite as I can't share with anyone else?

Nah, people just congregate in kitchens instead.

I will be living at Tocil during my first year at Warwick, and would like to bring car to campus. What are my options for renting a permanent/monthly parking? Parking on campus is preferred but I'm willing to settle for one off campus if it is less than 5 minutes away (walk) from Tocil.
I already applied for accommodation, some places being more central than others. I was wondering if it is common for people to have bikes on campus and where we would store them. Is there bike stations are every housing? Also, is there any place to purchase a bike (doesn't have to be fancy) as I'm coming from overseas and can't bring my bike with me

Having bikes: yes, it's pretty common.
Storage: there's plenty of places to lock them to (and if you leave it somewhere obvious with a ****ty lock on it, security will come by and stick a better one on it for you). There's also a few secure storages dotted around the place. There's a map here.
Buying: You can get a discounted one here, which is fairly local.
Heya, I hope some lovely person can help me. As an int. student I actually wanted to live somewhere with a 39 weeks let but I didn't particularly like Heronbank, Westwood and Whitefields and now my 5 choices are:
1. Sherbourne
2. Bluebell
3. Jack Martin - 30 week let :frown:
4. Claycroft
5. Rootes (don't want to end up here actually as I love love love partying but when I get home I want it to be quiet)

I'll probably arrive there with 2-3 pieces of luggage and it sounds like hell having to take all that stuff back into a plane and home during christmas and easter.
Are there any int. students that experienced living in a 30 week let residence? And is Rootes actually that loud and cramped? What do you guys think about my choices?

thanks in advance xxx

The 30 week let things have fairly large cupboards in them that you can padlock a fair amount of stuff into. I got all of my kitchen stuff, a printer and a bunch of other random bits and pieces in there with no problems. Rootes, like all residences, has quieter and louder areas: make sure you use the "tell us about yourself" box to tell them which you want to live in. There will be some noise from the proximity to the SU, but that's also true of JM and Claycroft. Not sure how the soundproofing on Bluebell is, but I imagine it's pretty good. The rooms are small, but not too small.

I would consider Westwood. It's a 10-20 minute walk to campus (depending on how fast you walk/where you need to be) and I loved my year there. Pricewise, it's the same as Rootes but you get much more value for your money as the the rooms are huge - easily the largest on campus and the kitchens are brand new. You're right next to the post-room, and only 5 minutes from Tesco (which I found much more valuable than being 5 minutes from campus!) and personally I found that besides the occasional night, it's usually very quiet. Westwood is very underrated and sounds like it would tick most of your boxes!
Just finished my first year and lived in Sherbourne. Had an amazing year, highly recommended.
