Hi!

I 've recently got an offer, and I am New to this thread. Could someone tell me when the deadlines for applying for accommodation are, please??
What would you advise better for a single applicant, individual, not really expensive, with oven and bathroom (if possible, of course...)? Thanks in advance !!!!

"Application forms for applicants starting courses between September 2015 and August 2016 will be available at the end of May 2015.
Only application forms for MBChB applicants and family / couple accommodation are processed on a first come first served basis and the deadline to apply is the 31st July 2015."

That's what it says on their website - there's no point stressing just yet! Have a look on their accommodation website and see what takes your fancy. All of the halls are self-catered so, naturally, all of them will have a kitchen (with oven of some kind). They will also all allow you access to a toilet in hall. It depends if you meant en-suite? Then there are specific options for that e.g. Sherbourne, Bluebell, Heronbank, Arthur Vick etc.

Hi! Im staying at Sherbourne this year!

In terms of how social it is it all depends on the people you stay with, you could make really good friends with the people in your flat and other flats in the building but its all down to the people who you stay with in the end. Do remember though that your flat mates aren't your only source of a friends, you will make friends from courses, societies and other socials e.t.c.

By people, if you mean where they are from, there is a large mix of both international and home students. This is just my flat don't know about others!

Depending what course your studying the location could be good or bad, if your studying a social science/humanity, your course lectures/seminars will be about 10/15 minute walk away depending on how quick you walk. Engineering and Maths students may have to walk at 15/20, and if you know your course is a life science course then it may be even longer. Do remember there is a free shuttle bus on campus to take you around!

Generally speaking its a nice accommodation space, nice walk to and from campus, it is a bit pricey but in my opinion it was worth the money.

Hi, I've got an offer for International Management and was wondering whether this would be a long walk to get to lectures? Also, if you had any pictures of your halls would be greatly appreciated, thanks :smile:
I got an offer for International Relations and I'm kinda lost as to what accomodation I should pick.
I've considered Arthur Vick as it's the cheapest haha.
What's best for a first year to make friends: accomodation or nah?
I have a question. I really, really would like an en-suite, so if I only apply for en-suite accommodations (like Bluebell/Arthur Vick/Jack Martin), will I be guaranteed an en-suite? Or does it not work like that? Also, how many accommodations can be apply for and is it first come first served?

Really does depend: flatmates- spend most of your time with especially weekends..., coursemates- helpful when your stuck on work or confused about course and someone to talk in those really boring lectures , sports clubs or societies- same interests and more fun when going out circling etc.

There's no way to guarantee an en-suite, and in fact the system wont let you apply for both AV and JM, if nothing's changed. You can apply for a maximum of 5 blocks, and IIRC, you need to apply for at least 4. It's not first come first served in any way.

Thanks for the answer! Unfortunate that you can't apply for both AV and JM (the ensuite/30 weeks/price is all perfect for me). If it's not first come first served, how do they decide who goes to what block? Is it just pure luck that you get the accommodation you want?

To all practical intents and purposes, yes. There are some things that adjust where you are in the priority list (medical needs etc.), but for the vast majority of people, it's functionally random.

Not sure if you've noticed yet or not, but Warwick have updated the Accommodation website and AV and JM are no longer quite so cheap, nor are they 30 week lets anymore.

AV = £5134 (34 weeks)
JM = £4998 (34 weeks)

That's really shot up, Arthur Vick was £3900 three years ago. I take it this means the end of reasonably cheap ensuites?
34 weeks is interesting, too. Probably mostly useless for most people though (if you're going to stay over a holiday, it's more likely to be Easter, what with it both not including Christmas and being closer to the exams).

Let's be honest, the University can make more money out of charging the students for the rooms than can be covered by leasing them to conferences, since conference season is damned slow from December 10th - January 5th :tongue: . Easter holds a wealth of business and academic conferences, but whilst they could probably make more more money by charging the students again, they need the availabilities of the rooms :rolleyes:

Call me a cynic, but there's a severe lack of affordable accommodation at Warwick now. What they rake in in extra accommodation costs they're going to have to fork out in hardship funds at this rate :indiff:

My maintenance loan and grant came to a total of £5,000 3 years ago.

Warwick Bursaries are only available for household income of less than £35,000. Assume £0 contribution for a £35k household with 2 adults and 2 children. Leads to the vicious cycle below.

More expensive ensuites -> less people apply because no-one can afford them -> too much demand for non-ensuites -> get assigned an ensuite -> can't afford to live.

I might query the justification in a 4% increase in prices year-on-year considering low inflation index and the state of incomes following the recession. It's absolutely disgraceful.

Yeah, it's a shame really. I liked Arthur Vick, and was happy that it was only about £400 more than Rootes at the time - next year it will be £1400 more and I wouldn't want to choose that were I a fresher again.

Some of the halls are available only for year 1 and last year undergraduates...

I am only applying right now but I am a bit worried about the year 2 accommodation. Maybe I'll have to make another uni as my firm..

What do year-2 students do in that case? Rent off campus? Can anyone share his experience?

Unless you have a valid medical reason, you will have to live off-campus in year 2 :yep: .

Your choices are realistically Cannon Park, Canley, Tile Hill, Earlesdon, Kenilworth and Leamington :yep:

You can either go privately through an estate agent, or Warwick Accommodation have their own houses, managed by the university, for you to rent :h:
