That's really shot up, Arthur Vick was £3900 three years ago. I take it this means the end of reasonably cheap ensuites?

I know! I was so shocked when the Accommodation Officer read out how much they'd cost! I knew the price would increase but I wasn't thinking it would be by so much!

I mean, Heronbank is now cheaper than AV and you get 39 weeks vs. 34! AV no longer seems worth it for that price, for £300 a year more you'd get Sherbourne. JM is now the cheapest en suite for the year, if you're going by yearly cost! It's so ridiculous.

I'm probably going to have to get shared bathroom now for definite. :frown:

Shared bathrooms aren't the be all and end all :fyi:

Haha, thanks for linking that, I'll be sure to have a read. I meant more that it definitely decided for me that I'm only applying to non-ensuite, I think. Before the price jump I was debating putting one of the ensuite a first just to see if I'd get it, but now I'll have to have a rethink. Though, I admit that the high numbers per bathroom put me off a bit. But, I did a residential and Oxford and managed then just fine - the only thing that bothered me then really, was the lack of sink in the room...

Most of the Warwick ones do have a sink, I think. I know Tocil doesn't, but I don't know of any others that don't.

Apparently Whitefields don't have a sink, but that is still TBC for which students can live there.

When can you start applying for accommodation this year?
Original post by nope..
i've firmed my offer for biomed so i would be down at gibbet hill, I've been told that Westwood is a definite no no for obvious reasons, but I was just wondering how long would the walk from Lakeside and Sherbourne etc be?

It's really not that bad to live at Westwood in my opinion; I think it's quite a nice walk. I'm first year Biomed and it takes me about 25 minutes to reach my lectures in Gibbet Hill; I have quite short legs as well so most people could probably make it quicker. Call me biased but I think the value for money you get for Westwood outweighs the 25 minute walk!

I believe Lakeside and Sherbourne are around a 10-15 minute walk to Gibbet Hill.

There is no advantage in applying early like at some uni's. I will all be decided by computer in early Sept.

Thanks so much! really opens up a lot of option! Quite a few people on open day said to stick to the ones like bluebell&rootes on the south but its great to hear it doesnt take a massively long time! a bit off topic but how are you finding the course?
Hi, would anyone be able to tell me whether Sherbourne residences is mainly for international students or not? Thanks

Wow, Westwood is definitely sounding a good option right now! I imagine that those walking to the main campus area (SU, Arts Centre) would have a walk closer to 10-15 minutes then? Everything I read online always makes Westwood sound terrible - it's a relief to hear that these horror stories are exaggerated.

The value for money is definitely an incentive for me! So you like Westwood? How much space do you have generally (e.g cupboard space)? Sorry to be a pain with all the questions!

You get a standard size wardrobe including a cupboard at the top, as well as a wide chest of drawers built into the desk. There's also a bedside table with small drawers and a trunk room to store suitcases which is usually kept locked during term time. As well as that the rooms themselves are very large so there's space to put in some of your own furniture or storage boxes etc. I think there might have been some changes to how the kitchens are set up since I lived there so I don't know how much space you would get there.

Westwood is a really nice place.

Yeah, that sounds like sensible times - the Maths building to Westwood is easily under 10 minutes, and central campus is only a little further away than that.

whats the big deal, wasnt it 70 quid or something along that last year?

It's all very well for them so say that Cryfield is cheap, but it doesn't excuse the fact Arthur Vick and Jack Martin have gone up over 30% in four years. :hmmm:

rootes was 50 something like 6-7 years ago, not the biggest shock, have to increase prices somewhere, jm and av is pretty price inelastic tbf
Does anyone know how far Rootes is from the Business School.

Judging by this map, Rootes is pretty much in the center, and not very far away from anything.
