I just noticed Sherbourne has some twin rooms,do we get a choice if we want a twin or single room? I would much rather prefer single room so that slightly put me off because it was going to be my first choice

You don't share the Sherbourne twin rooms with anybody. It's just a room that's twice as big, which, trust me, you really want! I believe there is 1 in every (or most) flat so there's a 1 in 9-12 chance you'll get it, and you don't get to choose - it's completely random. I have one and didn't know until the day I moved in, I walked in and thought, "this doesn't look like the pictures" haha  Your flatmates may hate you for a bit, but who cares -you have a double room

Omg that is amazing thank you so much!
If you apply for Rootes, is it random whether you go to old Rootes or new Rootes?

Yes, so far as I am aware.
I'm an international postgrad starting in the 2015/16 academic year.

Do most international postgrads start off in the on-campus accommodation before moving on? From what I can tell I know we get priority with on-campus accommodation, but I've seen in this thread some people who have applied for accommodation and haven't had a reply for quite some time, making it hard to plan and organize their move.

Also, does anyone know if there's anywhere to store luggage/belongings for a short time - what happens if you can't find share housing in time for the end of the let period? I'm considering Claycroft or Tocil, but the maximum let for Tocil is only 40 weeks, which won't really work.

What is campus life like for postgrads who go for the 51 week let? I imagine that once the academic year is over the campus would be pretty dead. Does this mean that all the campus services etc. shut down as well?

I don't know about numbers, but there seem to be a fair number that do that, yes - it's just more convenient, getting into the country so you can find people to live with more easily.

Nothing official that I'm aware of, sorry.

The services definitely keep going during the other undergrad holiday periods, but I'm not sure about the summer. I know the library is still open, but no idea other than that.
On the Warwick website, it says Westwood and some of the others have an awfully big number of people sharing kitchens. Bit worried about this considering I love to cook and wondering if there's enough space for everyone's food?

Westwood is sometimes a little tight (some people with especially large amounts of stuff keep some pans and stuff in their rooms), but it's not that bad. You'll find people tend to cook at different times, so there aren't often problems with all of the ovens being taken or anything like that.
Currently looking at Bluebell, any opinions upon it?
Also curious how the process works, are you guaranteed your first choice or do you post a list of choices?
Hi everyone,

I'm going to be a postgraduate student in Warwick in the next year and I'm starting to think about where will I live, so I've got a couple of questions:

1) In terms of costs per week, what is the best option (in general): campus or off campus?

2) I was looking at a on-campus residence named Cryfield in this link, which seems to be the cheapest option and also close to the Maths Institute (where I'll study). However, it's says: "Student type: First year undergraduates". Does it mean that this residence is not available for postgraduates?

3) What kind of criteria is used by the University to select the students which will get a position in a certain residence?

Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure how the total costs compare, but be aware that on campus all bills are included and you wouldn't be paying for travel to/from uni. However off campus you would need to consider those costs.

You would have to select an accommodation that states it is available for postgraduates.

First they look use information like your year if study, whether you are an international student etc to determine if you have priority for on campus accommodation. The list of criteria would be listed on their website. Then you give a list of preferences for which accommodation to go in. Based on that (and some random chance) they automatically allocate you a hall. Then there is a field where you write about your personality so they would use that to put people with similar personalities together.

Does the personality matching thing really work? I'm friendly but quiet (and need my sleep!) and I'm nervous about ending up with people who party all night or who are massively messy etc...
Fishyfoo I'm totally the same as you, so you're not alone! What course have you applied for?

Put that in, basically word for word.

Quite nice. Kitchens are a tad small if you're planning on having a lot of people around, but other than that, not much bad to say about it.
