Isn't Rootes one of the closest to the Gibbet Hill campus? Atleast it is on the campus map.
So confused!

Sorry, I didn't really write that very well. I was trying to say that good cheap shared options would be westwood and rootes but to mind that westwood is quite far from gibbet hill. I didn't mean to make it seem like rootes was included in that. Its the closest after bluebell! I'll edit that out :-)

Hey guys, Heronbank and Sherbourne are both pretty similar location-wise, and they're both 39-week ensuites. What are the differences between the two that we should take note of??
So, did anyone else see that they've decided who gets Whitefields 2015/16?

It's postgrad (40 weeks) for £3240 and first year undergrad (39 weeks) for £3159.

I'm seriously considering this for my first choice... Well, this or Rootes. Does anyone have opinions on them? Pictures wouldn't be amiss either, please!

Thanks for the clarification, I've so far heard nothing bad about Rootes so it may well be a top choice for me

Basically price. Sherbourne seems to have no stereotypes whereas Heronbank is seen to be quite international and social. Personally, I'm going for Sherbourne because it looks amazing and doesn't seem to be hugely popular

I think you'll be surprised how popular Sherbourne is. It's the newest one (correct me if I'm wrong) and doesn't have to stereotype of being isolated, or quite so isolated, as Bluebell. A ten minute walk is not enough to put people off and if say it's one of the nicer ensuites, from pictures. The longer let than Av/JM could also be quite attractive to some people too. Either way, en suites in general are quite popular because most seem to have some kind of insane aversion to sharing a bathroom.

Hey! Lakeside and Heronbank are my top 2 choices for accommodation. They are beautiful!! I don't want to be slightly skint in uni so I was wondering if it's a lot more expensive to go for 39 weeks as opposed to 30 or 34? Or does it not make much of a difference if it's best for me? (Also En-suite is definitely what I want so the cheaper accommodation is kinda out of the question)

Uh... You can't choose how many weeks you pay. If you get either Lakeside or Heronbank, assuming you're a first year, you'll have to get the 39 week let. There's no choice. So, you're looking at £5109 (HB) and £5148 (LS). As for being slightly skint, it all depends on what grant and loan you get... You'll just have to do the math and decide for yourself how much you can afford. If money is tight, an ensuite may not be on the cards. Then again, even putting LS or HB as first or second, you might not get them and could still wind up in shared bathroom. So, though it might be what you want, there's no guarantee you'll get that.

What is the likelihood of getting ensuite accommodation? I know that on the form you can only put a maximum of 3 down, but if your first 3 choices are all ensuite is it quite likely that you'll end up at one of them?

Also which halls tend to be quite over subscribed out of the ensuite ones? I'm interested in Jack Martin or Lakeside maybe.

Thanks for the advice! I'm leaning towards Sherbourne too between the two, but my first choice would be Tocil for the moment. Is it true that applicants are not normally given their 1st choice? What's the possibility of getting at least our top 3 choices?

Hey! Apparently a high percentage get one of their two top choices. If you put whitefields or Westwood it's pretty much 100% guaranteed. I'm not too sure about tocil but you'd be more likely to get it than sherbourne because it's not ensuite
I'm currently struggling to decide on my accommodation choices. I'm definitely putting Jack Martin down as my top preference, however my other four choices are far less certain. Currently, I'd probably lean towards Tocil and Rootes as second and third, but I'm extremely unsure about the rest. These are my thoughts about the available accommodation:
Arthur Vick - ruled out due to choosing Jack Martin
Bluebell - too expensive for my budget, and seems extremely unsociable
Cryfield - would be a good budget option, but the 30 week let could be a pain.
Heronbank - at the very top of my budget, but looks nice. Is it particularly sociable?
Lakeside - same as Heronbank (also which out of Heronbank and Lakeside is the better option, or are they pretty much the same?)
Rootes - definitely within budget, and is in a great location. Obviously it'd be very sociable, but would I be able to actually sleep in Rootes after freshers week ends.
Sherbourne - realistically out of budget, and seems a little antisocial having to use your key to get literally everywhere.
Tocil - looks like a really suitable place from pictures etc, though there doesn't seem to be many recent reviews. What is Tocil like in terms of the social side, and just generally really?
Westwood - An affordable option, and the large rooms are a definite plus. The location is putting me off though (although it wouldn't be terribly far to the new business school where my lectures would be). How easy is it to get back to Westwood following a night out in the SU?
Whitefields - would be nice and cheap, but I'm struggling to think of any more pros for this one, being right next to the SU could be a pain at night too.

Generally, I'm looking for a mix between somewhere that I could make could friends and would have sociable halls, but also enable me to actually sleep/study when I need to. Any help would be great thanks...

Hiya, I'm in a fairly similar boat to you, though my budget may be a bit smaller... I've been toying with putting either JM or Rootes as first but it's probably going to be Rootes due the location, price, sociability etc. I don't think sleeping will be too bad, particularly if you put on the statement thing that you value you sleep? Or maybe that you like to go to bed earlier (even if you don't)? Besides, there are always earphones etc.

I'll probably put Cryfield, Westwood and Whitefields lower down on my list too. They aren't bad or anything, I'm just not as keen on the style etc. of them. Tocil might be my second or so choice but I'm not quite decided yet.

I did find this Studentblogs entry quite interesting... It has loads of video tours of the accommodations, though not all of them are included.

That video link was quite useful actually, I might put Westwood down after that, it doesn't actually seem that different to Tocil apart from the location and numbers to kitchens. Still unsure about the 5th choice though...
Guys, just a little head ups! Whoever takes having an en-suite into the equation when it comes to choosing a hall is making a heavy mistake in my opinion. You pay SIGNIFICANTLY more for an en-suite while it is the most unnecessary thing in the world. The shared halls have PLENTY of toilets and showers, so there is ALWAYS atleast one of each completly free to use, you just have to walk 1 meter across the corridor. In addition to that, you have your own sink and mirror in your room! You are literally using the shared facilities to go to the toilet and shower you do the rest in your room!
When i got my offer from warwick i wanted to have an en-suite so badly so filled up my first choices with en-suite halls. Ended up in a non en-suite one and thank god for that every day. What do you think shared bathroom facilities mean? That you have to shower with other people or what?
NO! The only difference is that your bathroom is 1m located away rather than directly in your room. But well, saves you 40 pounds a week.

Another thing to consider are the walking distances. My timetable was pretty ****ed up, e.g one lecture at 9, one at 2, and one at 5. You definitely walk 20m from westwood and walking 3 times a day to lectures and back from westwood can be a massive pain

Just wondering if anybody knows of any decent video tours or photos of the student accommodation. LumosNox linked to a series of videos featuring some of the accommodation blocks but it didn't show all of the halls and the videos were brief (with pretty frustrating camera work - I want to get an idea of the room size, not be zoomed in on a chair!).

Are there any decent student-made videos or photo galleries that are more in-depth, more recent and less glossy PR driven?

Cheers!

I can't think of any pictures besides the ones on the accommodation site, the videos I linked above and those in the beginning of the guide on this thread.

Google Image searches for specific accommodations might work, I found a page of awkward panoramas of several rooms within each hall.
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/accommodation/studentaccommodation/all/images/

Another way would be to search in the student blogs for accommodation or specific residences like Rootes and see if anything comes up. I found a blog post dedicated to accommodation which shows several rooms.

http://studentblogs.warwick.ac.uk/economics3/entry/your_one_stop/

http://studentblogs.warwick.ac.uk/theatre/entry/westwood_4_lyf/

Failing that, you could ask some current Warwick students on the forum whether they'd share pictures past and present of their rooms? Sorry, there aren't many pictures around that give a good indication of what the rooms would actually be like. Reading the dimensions on the website doesn't really tell you much, particularly for those of us who have no real idea how large a 2.4 x 3.6 room is.

On YouTube you'll also find videos of accommodation but some are quite poor so, have a snoop there. I'll link some below!

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iHsbMJC1pds (AV)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3qxyXmn3as4 (LS - it's a bit naff with loads of random talking and whatever but they get to the actual room at about a minute and a half in)

I've also seen a Cryfield one which is quite good but can't find it at the moment.

I hope that helped!
