I'm really want my accomadation to be at Jack Martin, but I know the chances are low 😞 I'm going to be studying biochemistry so being close to gibbet hill would be ideal and I really want an ensuite, is the trek from lakeside/heron bank/Sherborne that bad? Isn't there a shuttle bus? Also out of Sherborne and heronbank which is better? Like more social? Are there loads of ducks/geese near Sherborne? Embarrassing but Im not a fan of pigeons so I don't know how I'm gmna deal with ducks and geese 😣😣😣😣😣😣

If you don't mind the walk, then no. I'm always up last minute so I couldn't deal with the longer walk. But I know quite of people who do come from Sherbourne/Heronbank and Westwood. It just depends on what you are like. There is a shuttle bus but because of the roadworks at the moment (that are likely to be there for the foreseeable future), its sometimes unreliable. I don't know anyone who takes it daily, most people walk.

There are quite a few geese and ducks by the lakeside. There are also ducks/geese by the smaller lakes in the bluebell path. I don't really know who to advise you on this one. If they bother you, the best thing to do would be to visit campus, the only one who can tell you how you'd feel about something personal like that is yourself!

Im looking to stay on campus over summer and I was wondering how limited accommodation is, am I likely to get it? I was also wondering if anyone has any experience doing this? I'm staying for an internship, but I'd prefer not to be alone all summer and I am worried that campus will be dead..

Very nice, thank you! I didn't notice before that the houses are two stories not just one. 😊 So, you'd definitely recommend living there? It sounds a bit strange, but sharing a bathroom between you has been fine? Oh, and how is the house laid out? So, is it the communal areas with all the rooms branching off? Or, what?

I was wondering about the 'About Me' section when applying for accommodation, I'm not a hermit who hates people or anything like that. But, I'm not a big fan of clubbing and lots of going out. How do I put this across without getting stuck with loads of people who don't talk to each other? Do I mention that I'm quite chatty, easy going and quite happy to socialise etc?

Gah, this is so annoying! 😒

Personally, I really like it and would recommended it. Its great value for money and as long as you're not expecting luxury, you will like it. Its really great to save a little money in the first year so you can spend more of your loan on doing things you enjoy. The main thing is roommates and as long as you're pretty honest about things in your section, you should be ok. If you got landed with bad roommates by some sort of problem, you can actually request to move out and they can help you do this. We had someone who moved in to our flat (after someone dropped out of their course and left) about December time, and we get on really well and its like he never wasn't part of the house!

Layout wise, its kinda hard to explain, when you walk in, there is the stairs,a hallway leading to more rooms,a room to your right and the kitchen. If you walk past the kitchen, there is a common room, that has doors straight to 2 bedrooms and to the hallway that i mentioned previously. The toilets are off the same hallway.
Upstairs is just a corriodor, with rooms off the hallway with a door separating 3 bedrooms from 2 in the corner.

There are 7 bedrooms downstairs and 5 upstairs.
I think they usually try to split the floors generally according to sex but because the houses are hardly ever exactly half and half of each, there is a little mixing. I live upstairs and share with 5 girls but there are another 2 girls sharing toilet with 4 boys downstairs. I've never had an issue with sharing a toilet between 5 (which I was really scared about, my 1st choice was Jack Martin because I thought I would DIE without an ensuite). I've had to wait 5 minutes top for the shower and if it was urgent, I could use the one downstairs if no one else was. Similar story downstairs, though the girls have complained a couple of times about the toilet sharing issue. Remember you aren't committing to a lifetime of sharing a toilet, it is only really for 30 weeks, it shouldn't be an issue really!

How to write it, would be to say that. I like to socialise, chat etc. I like being able to talk to people. I'm not a fan of clubbing (but would/wouldn't mind living with people who do). I like my sleep so I'd prefer to be with people who won't party every night but are happy to go out occasionally and chill out and talk as a flat. I'd personally say that I don't want to be with people who won't talk to each other. I put it like that in mine because I just can't deal with that, I wanted to be able to come home from a stressful day and go to bed if i want to or sit and chat to people, I would have struggled to be like that, so i put that I really didnt want to be with people like that!

Add stuff about any interest you have that may be shared (but I wouldn't add anything thats say irrelevant, like I like cats but living with people who also like cats would be of no benefit to me, as opposed to an activity I like doing).

Last thing, I'd say to everyone really. It doesn't matter where you end up, just make the most of it! As I'm packing up my room, its just made me realise how quickly you're first year goes. It really is what you make of it, so if you make the most of whatever situation you end up in, make lots of friends, you will have a good time! Don't stress too much about it

i'm really stuck on where to apply- i'm a sociable person who doesn't mind going out every weekend but can't stay up late every night and completely boycott nights out 1 month prior and during exam season- a hard worker but also up for fun. Where would be the best places to apply?
I was thinking jack martin, heronbank, lakeside, tocil and rootes
Are those good for me? If so which would be best? Any other recommendations
Please help!!!

Honestly, you are describing like 60% of students. Most people are like that, you get a few who really don't enjoy socialising and then you get a few who like partying all the time. Most people by far are in the middle.

In a super general way, Rootes is stereotyped as the the party hall, AV is thought to be quiet. Bluebell sometimes is thought to have more internationals who may keep to themselves. You really can't judge on these things alone but they might give you an indication.

Accommodation is a mix, each building has a mix of quiet blocks, normal blocks and loud blocks. You really can't judge it on the name and reputation before, remember new people move in to it every year!

Just explain that well in you're about me bit and you'll be fine. Stop stressing out about it so much, if you really end up with horrible flatmates, you can request to move

Thank you, sounds like saying no is probably better for me. But is the above experience just from your time in Whitefields, or for other people's in different accommodation too? Like i was worried if I said 'no' and got Rootes I'd need to wear earplugs all year haha.

I'm pretty sure this is campus wide, friends in bluebell, Rootes, Claycroft (no longer an undegraduate option), arthur vick and jack martin have expressed similar things, as well as other whitefields houses. You have to think about it, in you're group of friends at home, I bet you you will find a similar spread, most of you are in the middle, a couple of shy people and a couple of party animals. Its just how things are. It is a worry but do remember if things got really bad, it is a possibility to relocat and having to do it isn't always terrible. One of my current flatmates only moved in with us in december and honestly, sometimes we forget he hasn't been here all along.

While I'm a little conflicted in saying it, because I know a lot of people who live in Rootes in quieter blocks, normal blocks and even the loudest block and absolutely love it, the only people who I have known to be unhappy lived in Rootes. I don't want to say that and people get really iffy about Rootes which is great, I know some people who have just struggled in Rootes, specially in exam period because their flatmates are rude and too loud. Maybe, if you know you'd be super unhappy if this happened to you, Rootes might not be worth the gamble BUT I wanna stress that most of the people I know adamantly love it and tell everyone how much they love it!

I think that is for people who do not want any noise like at all. Like, thats if you are the person who doesn't really wanna socialise, more internal, happy to sit in bed all day without socialising. Bare in mind as well, if you picked this, it would probably a really big disturbance if you had a lot of friends round or came back drunk and made noise sometimes.

Most people are nice, tend to be respectful. Specially when asked! Drunk people are sometimes crazily receptive, if you tell them to please shut up because its late and you have a 9 am, they will probably sulk back to their rooms. I'd say 50% of people are like that, you will get put would loud people who wanna drink every night and will make noise every night theres any sort of promotion at a club if you say you wanna be with people like that. I think its also more likely to happen in Rootes because it does have that connotation always (but there are still quiet blocks in Rootes.

Mostly though, people make noise one or twice a week, and if you plan on going out occasionally, sometimes it will be you making the noise! Its just about being mindful, respecting you're flatmates and hopefully as long as they aren't horrible people, they will respect you back.

If you don't go to these quiet areas, will you get waken up? Yeah probably, maybe once or twice a year. But, thats all in the fun of it. Issues arise when there is absolutely fundamental mismatches, quiet people in a loud house. I've only know like 2 people who have flatmates like that. If you do want to socialise, i think you'll have a harder time doing it in a quiet area. As long as you emphasise that you expect people to respect your sleep but you want to be with people who are happy to chat or go out on a saturday night, then just go for normal

Oh no! I've put yes in my application form and I'm now worried that I'm going to be stuck with people who are very quiet and unsociable. Is there any way I could make another request?
Can anyone tell me more about cryfield, redfern, tocil or claycroft??

Are some more popular than others/more quieter etc? Which are considered more popular?

I don't know much about them. I'm guessing you're going to be a 2015 fresher? If so, Claycroft and Redfern aren't available to us.

Have a read of the reviews in the first couple of posts on this thread and earlier on I linked loads of stuff about the accommodation, there was a video on Tocil. Have a look.

What accommodation are you staying if you don't mind me asking and how is it? I really doubt I'll get into Jack Martin, how's tocil? Do you know how may toilets/bathrooms they have?

On the accommodation website, when you have the 2015/16 list of accommodation prices, ( http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/accommodation/studentaccommodation/all/campus/residences/ ) on the left of each in the general information for each, it says 'Student Type', referring to whether first years, finalists or postgrads can apply.

Is it true that Bluebell is full of international students?

Any current students able to comment on that and whether its as unsociable as everyone makes it out to be?

I'm living in Tocil at the moment. It's pretty decent, and reasonably quiet at the moment (when they aren't building something next door...). You can usually hear the drunken shouting from AV/JM, but not much else. That might change significantly next year though, given that it's currently a third year block. We've got 12 in our flat, with three toilets, two showers and one bath, though I think some of the other flats have less people/more showers. We've got two sinks and two ovens (along with the ridiculous array of other appliances that we've all turned up with).

Hey! It's fairly quiet and most people keep to themselves! I have friends that live there and the only way they've coped is joining loads of society's and sport teams. The problems is that you're more likely to have a language barrier in bluebell (ie your whole flat could be French and you're the only English one), it just makes hard to communicate! Saying that they have a BBQ and field opposite my kitchen (rootes) and I always see people socialising! I think it's luck of the draw and the fact it's a small flat and loads of international students, it means you could end up not getting along with the whole flat!
The application for accommodation is OPEN for 2015/16. The deadline is 31st July.

Would you say its fairly sociable? A student on open day told me one of them (might of been cryfield) is very quiet or something. How do you find it sharing with 11 other people? Would you say there are enough ovens and that for everyone? Do you happen to know much about cryfield and the differences in terms of the social side in comparison to tocil? Ill be mainly on gibbet hill so looking at accommodation near there  (thanks for your info)

Thanks for the reply! Do the staff not try and mix the students up so that there are a mix of international and home students, or do they not really pay that much attention to things like that?
I live in Westwood at the moment so if anyone would like some pictures or has any questions feel free to ask!
Hey all. In the OP, it says that both Bluebell and Sherbourne use a keycard system that means there are 4 locks between your room and the outside world. It then later says that Bluebell's changed its system so you can go to all flats in the block. Just wondering whether Sherbourne also had the same changes...

I want to apply there (a current student said it had the right mix for socialising and being able to work, which a friend of mine backed up to some extent) but want to meet new people.

Hi, the main question with Westwood is the distance it is from everything else. How far actually is it (heard some people say 10 minutes, others like 20 to the rest of campus) and has it been a pain at all over the year?

Also, does the distance affect Westwood in terms of the social side? I'm a bit worried it'd leave me a bit isolated from the rest of the campus feel, and just wondered how social Westwood is generally.

Finally, what are the Westwood kitchens like, the rooms are HUGE which looks like a big advantage, but the Warwick website's Westwood pictures are a bit awful, so I haven't really been able to see a kitchen at all properly (a picture would be brilliant!)

Sorry there's a lot there but any help would be great thank you!
