sherborne is tough to move between floors, thats the best thing about rootes imo, you literally can go from one side to another in 1 minute. very easy to find new people

Yeah you're right. I like my flat though so I don't really go to other flats.

Hello!
Wondering how far is Westwood from the main campus? Looked through a few maps but the distance was not shown.
What do you think of Westwood? It seems like the perfect budget place to live in except for its distance.
Is it inconvenient? Say, to walk all the way to class when the weather's cold or perhaps generally too much time wasted travelling to and fro per day?

All of the accommodation buildings are perfectly within walking distance. If you hear people talking about Lakeside or Westwood being far from the centre of campus, or hard to get to, they aren't. I live in Lakeside and my friends like Westwood. Westwood is further away but nothing major.

They say it because some places like Bluebell are literally a 5 minute walk from the centre of campus so by comparison it seems much further but they aren't. Lakeside and Westwood are about 15/20 minutes away at the longest depending on where you are going.
I'm looking in the accommodation for 2016 entry. I'm worried about being able to afford to live in flats. I wouldn't have the financial support from family just maintenance. Just wondering if any current students in same position and how do you manage the finance side of university?

Hi everyone! I need some advice please! I have entered my living status on my application as home and I have already received my offer, but can I change this still, or is it too late? Also, is the same for all universities?

~10 minutes from Westwood to most parts of central campus. Westwood Education Centre to Gibbet Hill is further, and will take a while. Westwood to the maths department (Zeeman building on the maps) takes 6 minutes, if that's a helpful baseline for you.

Email/ring the university and ask.
Which accomodation would you recommend me choosing? Westwood/Rootes or Tocil (or any other accom. for that matter) for a wbs student who will study for a 1st but still wishes to be very social and party weekly.

Does anybody have any experience with applying for individual accommodation? I've applied for prices (at least, I assume they'll try to match these prices) between £90 and £120. Should I expect povvo-tier at the lower end, or should I still expect good accommodation at that price?

I did the online form; I went for 85 to 125. I've heard that the average rent is somewhere around £90, so £90 to £120 should get you something decent, at least by student accommodation standards. The accommodation people just notified me that they have no houses available in Leamington though, and the prospect of living in Coventry isn't one that excites me tbh.

This might be a decent option if you want Leam and are going it alone

I put Kenilworth as my first choice and they said that nobody else wants to live there :frown:, so I was offered Coventry too. Just told them to hold off in the case that more people who like Kenilworth apply, so I think I should be OK on that front. I received the same answer about Leamington btw

Looked at that one myself and it's got all the problems that I have right now. Namely, way too many people and noise from them all. Plus, 23 bed kinda screams If you like noise and partying, apply here!. 3-5 people, hopefully 3, sounds comfy as ****.

If you're into that stuff tho, it sounds good!

I think that I put Kenilworth as me second preference, so I'm surprised that they said that. I know what you mean about the noise problems with the 23 bedroom property; I would prefer a smaller, quieter property (I'm not really into partying either).

Did they not mention Kenilworth at all in the response that you received?

Nope - not one mention of Kenilworth. It seems as though it's Coventry or nothing. I replied saying that I would be interested in Kenilworth, Earlsdon or Chapelfields - I'm trying to avoid Canley as it looks like a bit of a craphole.

They said there's a few houses available, so maybe we'll get put in one once they read our responses.

I thought that all of Cov was a ****hole. Although, I'm from the north of Manchester so it can't get much worse...

Some areas of Coventry are nicer than others, as with any medium-large city.

Rather than Leamington or Kenilworth, I actually live in Warwick itself and I'd recommend living there if any houses are available.

Do you mean that they had houses available in Kenilworth? Should be a good chance of Kenilworth offer if that's the case.

Certainly a lot of Cov is a hole. I'm not sure whether it has any nice areas, but based Google image searches, Canley seems to look particularly deprived whereas Earlsdon looks somewhat nicer.

As far as Coventry goes: Tile Hill and Canley proper (by which I mean "everything north of Charter Avenue) are fairly crappy (most of Canley's 50 years past its planned demolition date), but other areas are better: Earlson/Hearsall is OK, and the Cannon Park end of Canley (the area that you can get to from Tescos without hitting any major roads, roughly) is pretty good (mostly, it's a place that people to retire to, though there are a reasonable number of student houses dotted around. Kenilworth is more popular with staff/postgrads than undergrads, but there are a few houses of undergrads dotted around the place, mostly fairly small. Leamington I never even looked at because busses.

I would love to live in Warwick (visited the castle and town a few years back and it was much nicer than Leamington) but there wasn't even an offer on there for Warwick accommodation so I assume that you can't be assigned there.

Eh, don't doubt that there's some nice bits, but I love being able to go on easy walks from where I am now and Coventry would probably put a stop to that. Kenilworth, on the other hand, is in a really great location and looks like I wouldn't have to worry about idiots when walking around at night.

Yeah, they said that they had a few.

I'll go on a Street View tour now...

Are robberies common in some of these areas? Do you know of anybody living there that's been robbed? In the accommodation guide they make it out as though it's quite a big issue.

Being around people who are retired sounds pretty decent tbh. My supervisor said that Kenilworth was extremely popular when he managed to find a house there, odd. To me, it seems like a quieter, closer version of Leamington with everything you need (shops, park etc).

I've spent three and a half years walking through the middle of Canley in the dark at least twice a week. I've never seen anything happening, but there are occasionally doors that have been forced open etc.

The houses that are there for undergrads are pretty popular: there's just only three-ish of them.
