If I find anyone from Benefactors I will cage them as a rare specimen. Similar to if I encounter Sam Lee...

But it's Sam Lee!
Rolf.
I somehow had his number on my phone on the first sunday night, and someone called him up to come over. He was wearing his silly musketeers outfit.

should you apply for accomodation if warwick is your firm?
Reply 843
Yes, you should apply if Warwick is your firm or your insurance.
Small question about the application process: after receiving the email with the link to finish your application, do you receive anything else, like a receipt?
I never received one and I'm not sure if I was supposed to or not, and just thought I would ask.
Thanks

I applied late and just got an unconditional to Warwick yesterday. (yay!) If i apply for accomodation soon would I be at the back of the line regards to where I want to live? Or is it just in a random order? Also, does the information on applying for accomodation come through the post only after youve made Warwick your firm/insurance? I'm an international so post takes ages to get here. Thanks for your help.

As long as you apply before the deadline, you will not get a "better choice". It isn't random (they look at your application to see where is most suitable), but you'll be given equal priority with everyone else who applies before the deadline.

Ok thanks. By random I meant the order they look at the applications. That is, would an accomodation get filled up before they got to looking at my application.

I've no idea how they approach them once they actually start processing and allocating, but because that doesn't happen before publication of A Level results you'll be at no disadvantage whatsoever provided you've applied before Warwick's deadline of July 31st. Before that point, nothing is done first-come-first-served.
Reply 851
Great. So you only find out your accomodation only after Results day even if you have an unconditional?
Reply 852
Pretty much, yes. Would you need to know it earlier?
Reply 853
Not that it is a need but it would be nice if I did haha
Reply 854
No, even if it's an unconditional you won't be allocated until after A Level results - you should find out either the first or second week of September.

On my "IMPORTANT DATES 2008" letter, it says:

July/August: Accomodation allocation sent to candidates holding firm (first) choice unconditional offers.

I have applied for my accomodation, does anyone know if I should be receiving anything like a conformation of my application apart from that automatic email notification?

I stand corrected I guess. I'm sure it wasn't like that before though...

So I was thinking, I might be willing to bite the bullet and shell out £140 for the TV Licence but I've heard that Warwick's reception is shocking.

Is that true? Like, really bad? No point in getting a TV kind of bad? Do people get one for their kitchen? A laptop is all well and good but sometimes, you just wanna channel surf, y'know?

and on that point, does anybody do it without the licence and how long have you been getting away with it for? I heard that they can't REALLY detect if you're watching tv but I've also heard that they catch upwards of 20K people a year...

anyway. Just wondering.

Don't pay £140 for a TV licence, certainly not individually anyway. Reception is bad - we couldn't get any in our rooms in New Rootes last year. Kitchen was fine the one time we tested it, so if you do anything just share it between however many of you there are.

As a kitchen we never got round to buying a licence or putting a TV up illegally, but we didn't really miss TV in the slightest. You'd be surprised.

As far as licencing goes, you'll get lots of happy letters with "OFFICIAL WARNING" in big red letters if you don't notify them that you aren't using a TV in your room, in reality they'll never check.
