Oh I didn't mean it in a bad way.. really...
I personally think those shacklets look cute from the outside

Oh nonoonono!

I said the shacklets in a very loving way. Let me take that back. Whitefields is great really. As with every other hall it depends who you get put in with.

As with the death metal neighbour, you are as likely to be put next to one in Whitefields as with every other hall. Would you prefer even louder Britney Spears coming through your radiator? That was Arthur Vick btw. :p:

At the same WF *cough* house where they had the loud metal music, they also had a projector and at least 3 games consoles. So it's cool :yep:

.. this is so amusing, I don't know what to expect anymore.

Yeah, it's true about the death metal, but Britney Spears may be tolerable IF they were the old albums.. meh, depends on many things really :p:.

Tocil has flats of 6, 9 or 12 depending on the block and whtehre there's a tutor flat next door or not. Unlike Rootes they're actual flats, rather than corridors.

Just to clarify:

Westwood is NOT far from anywhere. It's a short walk from main campus. Compared with a city university, this is ridiculously close. NOTE: Lakeside and Heronbank are about the same distance's walk.

Whitefields are NOT shacks. They're small houses with the same quality of furnishings and decoration as al other residences.

En suite halls are NOT full of pompous private school educated ponces. That's Oxbridge.

Could i just point out to those of you who feel it's appropriate to say things like that, that it's hardly accurate, and it's unfair to make people worry about their accommodation before they even arrive. It's stressful enough for people coming to university without remarks like that. When they get allocated accommodation, the last thing they want is to read a load of subjective, biased drivel on halls that they will undoubtedly come to love.

Hehe... I agree, except for the Oxbridge part: I'm joining Warwick from Cambridge and this 'subjective, biased drivel' of yours is quite inaccurate. :p:

Agreed; the assertion about Oxbridge is grossly unfair and inaccurate.

I'm sure people have already asked this but can you get TV signal in Rootes??? I think even if i can't i will still bring my tv for dvd's but would be nice to know.
Reply 930
You can't get any signal in your rooms, only in the kitchens. Remember that you'll have to buy a TV license if you want to watch TV.
Most people just watch DVDs on their laptops and use iPlayer or twofo for TV stuff.

If you bring a decent mobile aerial you will be able to get watchableish TV reception in your room. Prob varies between blocks.
Hehehe, and wait for all the angry letters from the tv licensing people! Everyone in my halls got one every so often, getting more serious each time. And for some reason I was a letter ahead of everyone else so it was a tad scary :p:

In our Rootes corridor (P 1st), TV reception was nonexistent in all rooms, and I'm pretty sure someone tried it with a portable aerial. If you are only going to bring a TV for DVDs and not videogames I would advocate at least considering using your laptop and a decent set of speakers instead - it's not that the rooms are too small for a TV, far from it, but the reduced desk space may well annoy you.

Ours got amusing with "OFFICIAL WARNING" in big scary red underlined letters, that was about February I think. Naturally nothing actually happened when we ignored the letters. Ever.

No no, that one was tame. They told me they were gonna take me to court and sent me a copy of some legislation

Yeh, they're very personal with those. I really hate the "guilty until proven innocent" stigma that they seem to have. One of my friends ended up obliging and writing them a letter saying "I don't watch TV, k?"
Reply 937
I did compose a reply to the Official Warning letter saying that I wasn't physically able to watch TV in my room, and added that even if I couldn't I wouldn't due to the ****ness of the programmes as well as most of us having to spend what little money we students have on food and condoms. I forgot to send it, sadly.

I thought condoms were free! Where did I hear that :shifty:
The thing that made me maddest was the colossal waste of paper. All these endless letters (and even booklets full of legislation) sent to thousands of students for absolutely no reason, every single year. It's ridiculous.
