Can I ask what just being nosy? For health reasons my parents would rather I went JM but I have feeling I'd be happier in Rootes!

oh do you mean why? Well, my friends who stayed in JM were saying that it's a lot quieter and people "aren't that socioable", whereas in Rootes it's the complete opposite. They said if they had to pick again they would go for Rootes. Even if you do want to get one with work you can always trap yourself in the library? Also the 30 + 39 week let was a big thing for me. I really didn't want the hassle of having to move in and out etc. But yeah I guess it depends who you're put with!

argh p*ssed because i like 39 week let and soicalbe factor about rootes but i definitely want ensuite which is JM :frown:...I might stick JM as 1st and Rootes as 2nd because i deffo dont want to share. Also - although im very out going - i have a feeling rootes will turn me into a wild child that doesn't study at all (im strugglin to study/revise now im that naughty) lol
I had the same feeling about Rootes. However, I put it down as my second choice. Anywayz, after doing a lot of "research" on the "accommodation topic" I think that you cand have a good time wherever you go, it just depends on you. I'd be happy with JM, as I'm also desperate for en-suite, but I wouldn't say "No" to the Rootes life-style. It's just a matter of flexibility, you have to cope with the situation and circumstances you'll be put in, and adapt. While in Rootes you'll have to make some efforts to study, in JM you'll probably have to make some efforts to have fun. Nevertheless, we will have to make some efforts, lol.
Just wondering how important people found having a sink in their room? I really like tocil and whitefields but they don't have a sink in the room- is this a massive issue?

Well I've put Cryfields as my first choice, as far as I can tell it's a cheaper quieter rootes.

Awesome, it's pretty much an extra £1000 to splurge really.
Can you tell me anything else about it please?

It was constructed based on a swedish women's prison apparently! :p:

More seriously, pretty nice accommodation. Despite the numbers quoted on the website, there's never any queue to use kitchen facilities/bathroom. It's ideally located, close enough to all the Student's Union action but far enough that you'll rarely get disturbed in the early hours, unlike Rootes or Whitefields.
I'm glad I found this thread! I am going to do Maths next year (if all goes well!), but I'm not certain about accommodation. I read through the last 5 or 6 pages on here, but not much mention of Claycroft. This is what I was considering to be my first choice - does anyone have any views on it?

I think it sounds a good option.. with the shared bathroom between two which isn't too bad, although I know so little about it that I left it as my third choice.
I beleive up until this year it was postgrad only, so maybe thats why there is such little mention of it?
I could be wrong.
I'm putting Claycroft as my first choice. From what I saw wandering around the campus, it seemed like a good reasonably central location and the fact that it has a pond and trees and stuff made me happy!

For what it's worth!

Ah finally someone else for Claycroft! :woo:

What course are you doing? Do you know whether Claycroft puts all boys together, and all girls together?

It seems like it's a decent sort of atmosphere where people like to party but also know when to keep quiet because of work. Hopefully, anyway!

I'm doing French and Italian, what about you? I think it's mostly mixed but there are a few single sex flats too.

French and Italian sounds good - I always wanted to learn Italian, but I just can't get to grips with any foreign language :o:

And I'm doing maths, but the entry requirements (i.e. STEP exams) seem a tad beyond me atm, but fingers crossed I'll get there eventually!

I'm utterly convinced that since everyone learns a language (their mother tongue) that everyone is indeed capable of learning a second language. It's just easier for some than others!

However maths for me stopped after AS. Far too many letters and far too few numbers for my liking.

I totally agree with you about the languages - I should be able to learn Italian. I just struggle immensely!

And as for maths - the more letters the better! Makes it look extremely complicated and quite formidable, and makes me feel like a genius when I can actually do it lol. It also makes lovely shapes.
