I went for

1. Rootes
2. Westwood
3. Tocil

I also put I like lively people who can hold a few drinks, to go out at nights and would like to be near the SU (yeah, I wanna be in Rootes!) I also put I had a strong interest in film, music and lit and I'd like to make a lot of friends through accommodation.

I'm thinking
1. Tocil
2. Rootes
3. Cryfield/Claycroft

Any opinions? I heard Claycroft is quiet and out of the way.. But is it so bad that I should pick Cryfield?

Also could someone please enlighten me on whether the toilets are shared between both sexes.. Just wanted to be.. umm.. mentally prepared.. haha =)

Thanks so much =)

Are there any pictures of Cryfield? Apart from whats on warwicks home page, as I keep hearing about how small the rooms are! :frown:

Ye, i'd like to see some too.

The pictures on the website are mainly jsut the outside of each of the accomodations and one of the bedroom
Warwick are ripping us off big time! I wanted to apply for three 30 week accommodations, but 3 out of 4 of those are en suite - and you can only choose one en suite! This means I could get a 39 week accommodation that ISN'T en suite, which would be awful :frown: No point in a 39 week accommodation - I wouldn't stay in Warwick mainly because it's not near any decent cities (I hate massive cities anyway though, so even then I wouldn't stay), plus I want to see my family

See here for the annual prices for each accommodation.

The prices may have changed since I posted them in March - but Cryfields is cheapest if you plan on saving money, then the next 3 cheapest are 39 week lets (with Benefactors £110 a year more expensive as the fifth cheapest overall and 2nd cheapest 30 week let).

Thanks! I chose an en suite option as my first choice (don't mind paying extra for those luxuries), with Cryfield as my second choice with it being the cheapest. Apparently you could choose up to 6 accommodations, but I saw no point in choosing more than 3

How is that ripping you off? Most universities have rents of 39-41 weeks - it's not common to have 30 week rents in the first place. In addition, it's way more convenient to have a 39 week rent because you don't have to move your stuff out every holiday (and I'm lazy like that, plus don't feel like trundling all my things home for 4 hours every term, AND since I live in the middle of nowhere if I fancy going to a gig over holiday time I can go stay at uni and train it into B'ham).

Made my decision.........JM, Tocil & Rootes.
In the yes/No question of: Do you want a quiet area? If I have answered No (have i goofed??), but in my statement I have showed my clear preference towards having my own space etc. How good are my chances for the first choice (JM)?
Dosen't quiet area mean within your hall of residence OR does it mean quieter campus areas like Tocil, Lakeside, Claycroft etc. Should I change my reply?? I am confused.
Can anyone guess & chance my most probable accommodation?

Yes... the bathrooms are shared by both sexes, it's hardly scary...
If you have a problem with that though, I'd recommend applying to be in a 'same sex' corridor, then you won't be with the opposite sex though I don't know why anyone would want that.

To be completely honest, SO many people apply for Jack Martin and Arthur Vick, that it doesn't really matter what you've written...you have as much chance as the next person who applied there.

Tocil certainly isn't quiet, I was there and it was incredibly lively! So much fun that I wanted to be there in my last year too but didn't get it.
Lakeside is a bit further out, I've never actually seen it! Claycroft always looked nice, not sure how lively it is, but it's near tesco!
I presume they ask if you like quiet or loud so they don't put people who don't want to go out at all etc with people who want to have fun the whole time and make a lot of noise (whereas some people might rather sleep or work).

Whatever accom you get, you'll have a fab year. It's not such a big deal! :-)

I heard that Cryfield is quite small, like Hurst (where I will be next year) and Redfern, but I haven't seen it.

I had pictures of my tocil room, not sure if they're still on my pc though since I had it all fixed!

I still haven't applied! I can't decide between Rootes and Cryfield for my first choice.. And if I choose Rootes are there any areas I should avoid? Like ground floor or a room next to the kitchen or something?

Rootes is more partyish and louder, but the long corridors put me off it a bit. I prefer flats to corridors.

You can't choose your room... you are simply assigned one so you cannot pick a top floor or away from the kitchen, you get the one you are given.
I had ground floor and actually I preferred it, as it saved me from lugging heavy shopping bags up the stairs. I am hoping I get ground floor again!
Still don't have a clue what to go for and the deadline for applying is in a few days time.

Ideally, I would prefer to have an en suite and of those, Jack Martin would be my choice, but the regular comments I see cropping up about all en suite halls lacking the social qualities concern me quite a bit.

I hear nothing but great things about Rootes, but I'm not sure about that either. Sounds like you're pretty much guaranteed a good social life but at the same time, I'm not exactly the type of person that wants to be socialising 24-7. I wouldn't want to be "partying" every single night. And sharing a kitchen with 15 or more people sounds like an absolute nightmare.

Basically, I'm a moderate. I want to make friends through accommodation and socialise quite a bit, but not excessively. I thought Tocil might suit me, but according to the accommodation site, the rooms don't have wash basins, which would frustrate me. Plus, I'd probably prefer halls to flats.

Ugh...still clueless :s-smilie:

Not all en-suite accommodation "lack social qualities". Jack Martin for example, in my opinion at least, is a great in-betweener. You don't get many unsociable people in JM, and you don't get the 3am fire alarms like in Rootes, either.
Out of all the accoms I've seen around campus and had friends in, my faves were Tocil (where I was) and Claycroft. Jack Martin was also very nice, because of the ensuite, but it did seem a bit quieter than some of the other halls, but not dead silent or anything :-)
How much is it to use the washing machines? My mum said normally you can pay £6 for 1 cycle at a laundrette!

Woot, those are the three halls that I've applied to  (although in the reverse order to which you mentioned them)

Good choice :-)

Can't remember...
I think at Tocil it was 2 pounds for the wash (but not sure if you could put less for shorter time) and 20p to dry... I often put about 40 or 60p in to make sure it was dry if it was a heavy load!

£2 to wash &possibly same again to dry.

I always hung up my stuff in my room for a day to dry out..every little helps!

Rootes & AV Laundries:
£2 wash.
£1 dry.
