my 1st choice:jm
2nd: rootes
3rd: im stuck, im thinking clayycroft,or cryfield

i was thinking that for third but one of those was 39 week rent right? i dont remember off top of my head about the other one but surely 39 week will attract intl's who tend to stick together?

edit: ah cryfield is 30 week, just concerned about room size.

Just going to add my input for Tocil.

- 6 or 12 people sharing one flat

- one bathroom (with toilet + shower), and another with toilet + bath tub

- In each room there is : one long table with drawers, movable bedside tablem, three shelves, wardrobe, mirror, bed. But no sink.

Pros:

- Right next door to the Sports centre, good for gym and sport enthusiasts

- Approx. 3* minute walk to the union (although not sure about next year, when the union will be housed in a temporary tent), costcutters, banks and other shops on central campus - as well as the Arts Centre

- Approx 7-10* minute walk to Tesco.

- Approx. 3-5* minutes walk to the Library, Humanities building, and other buildings on Library Road.

- Decent noise levels, noise from the union doesn't normally travel as far as Tocil. Also relatively quiet compared to Rootes.

- 'Community' feel (especially if you get a 6 person flat); less people per corridor

- On central campus, so close to other accommodations.

- Tocil fields, available for kicking a ball around

- Very decent sized kitchen, enough shelving space and fridge/freezer space for everyone

- Laundry for Tocil residents only. Generally enough washing machines, but tend to get busy during peak hours.

- Don't have to move out during holidays; saves a lot of hassle. Relatively cheap too.

- Within a block, each flat has a locked door before you can enter, so it's safe.

Cons:

- Relatively thin walls. Sometimes possible to hear muffled noises from flatmates.

- Room doesn't get cleaned, but then again, you don't have to worry about cleaners moving your things around

*note: walking estimates will vary from person to person, and my estimates are fairly generous seeing as I'm a slow walker

how 'in-demand' is jm? if its my first choice am i likely to get it?
Reply 163
the en-suite accom is quite popular, but you are more likely to get into JM than AV.

Can anyone recommend a few accommodation which is close to the Business school department ('cause I'm not planning to walk half an hour every day to class and lectures etc).
And I heard that first year usually won't get their en-suit choice (if they did apply ofcourse) right? The idea of sharing a bathroom with 20 people does not sound so good to me. Does anyone get trouble with these kind of shared bathroom?
Btw, I visited the Warwick accommodation website but didnt find the online application form, so am I supposed to fill in a paper form right? Besides, do we have to declare Warwick as our firm choice before sending off accommodation application.

(Gosh, I'm feeling so clueless now, it looks like everyone has sent their application off already)

Yeah, I'm really hoping accomodation isn't exactly first come first served, cause I only just got an offer while other people have had plenty of time to apply for accomodation before me..and I still can't decide so it's going to take another few weeks at least.

No one has applied for accommodation, the forms aren't even out yet.

Yea - I think they don't come out until about May! There is a similar form on the Accommodation website but it's for Mature students if I remember correctly!

I'm thinking about picking rootes
but the problem is, people keep saying stuff about fire alarms
does that mean you have to come out in your jimjams at 4am or something?

Yup, unless you get changed first I guess. But everywhere has firealarms so dont let it put you off picking rootes.
why are there fire alarms so frequently?

Everything apart from westwood will be close to the business school. If you really want ensuite just say in your application you're quiet, go to bed early, want a quiet environment to study etc and you should get put into AV or something if thats your first choice.
You won't be sharing a bathroom with that many people if you dont have ensuite - rootes for example is about 12 people a kitchen and you'll get 2 toilets and 2 showers between you. You never really have to wait. And everything gets cleaned daily.

Okay, cheers. I think Westwood looks good as I don't reckon I'd mind the walk too much.

The Westwood Walk only really gets you the first week, but that's probably due to lack of sleep, once you top up the first weekend on sleep you'll be fine from then on! It can be annoying if you want to go to campus for one small reason (like to get a book from the library) as it doesn't motivate you to go (or maybe I'm lazy. Note also there is a smaller library near by anyway).

But today I woke up and it was like summer outside, and a few of the halls including mine had people outside playing football/chucking a rugby ball around with people outside on seats sitting around. It's good to have the grass and trees, and we all can't wait for next term as the summer is definitely going to make Westwood amazing (it was like this for the first half of the first term too, but we were all too fresh to use it!).

Good space for a BBQ too. We had our first one about 4 weeks ago!

People who can't cook, people who cook when drunk, variations of the kitchen and alcohol theme, people who think it is funny to set the alarm, too much smoking in rooms..they are many of the main reasons!

Fire alarms happen frequently because with so many people living in one building things like fire alarms happen.

Just want to ask

some halls have 30 weeks let only,, does it mean we have to take away all our stuff away and clear the room completely or we can leave some stuff in there during the holiday?

And what if, for some reasons, we have to stay over the holiday, is there any accommodation available? If there is, what about the price? Would it be the same with the normal cost or it would be higher?

No, you have to take your stuff, but there is some place to store stuff you cant take, the guy who lived next to me was from Hong Kong so left loads of stuff, im not sure how it works though.

I believe you can stay in Cryfields over holidays if you need to, I think you pay normal Cryfield prices, but info like that should be on the Warwick accommodation site.

In Rootes:
Everyone has a lockable storage cupboard above their wardrobe to store stuff. There's also a trunk room on the top floor of each block... just for overseas students I think... although other people do put stuff in. There's also a luggage container which gets put in the car park near rootes.
