Is LSE really as full of idiots as this message board gives the impression? I have an offer to study there next year, and the prospect looks worse and worse as I read the posts of those who are going. Please tell me that people like Gnostic are the exception rather than the rule!

Gnostic isn't an idiot. And yes, there are plenty of us here who are like him. Please: don't come to LSE. Go instead to a nice, pleasant academy where everybody sits around on lawns and strikes poses and mouths jargon out of the Guardian (does that nearly rhyme or something?).

I say it again: please don't come here. We're not nice...We don't do nice...It bores us...You would bore us...

There have been many great people who studied and taught @ LSE so it can't be "FULL of idiots".

However I understand where you are coming from, there are certain individuals on this forum, who are very immature.
If you have a close look at each person’s reputation you will see that there are people here who aren’t very popular like Gnostic and W.A.S Hewins as their reputation is grey rather than Green.

I think they represent a minority at LSE, there are several people on this forum who are very intelligent and helpful people like J.S. who has also studied at LSE.

So I don’t think you can generalize.

I hope you don’t be put off by reading their posts and I hope you do go to LSE as I am sure it is a fantastic place but then again wherever you go, u’d get the Good, The bad and The Ugly: p

The reason people started this thread is because they wanted to have a go at LSE. Do you think the title's complimentary? Please stay away from LSE: it's wasted on people who get all their ideas from whatever media they expose themselves to. It's not really the best place for suburban people, however well they might do in their exams. Yo'd be better off almost anywhere, from Oxford to TVU (sorry if that sounds patronising).

You won't enjoy it here and you won't get the joke.

LSE is just a university. I will be coming in October and I do hope I never meet you.

It's not a place for suburban people
What on earth do you mean by that?

I'm sure LSE isnt full of morons. Just stay away from the people who have an inflated sense of their own importance (i.e. the ones who try and fail to say that LSE is on a par with Oxbridge) and the ones who seem to think that criticising the Guardian makes them some sort of pseudo-free thinking intellectual going against the mould. They're boring, and if you do happen to bump into one, just humour him or her. Tell them they're special.

yea I hope that ppl are okay. I don't want to spend the next three years with dorks  uni is supposed to be the best years of one's life, and I could stay right here in my country where I know I'll have a good time. but I have faith in the LSE and its students and expect boring, cocky, arrogant and anti-social dumbasses to be in a minority.

P.S. kingslaw I don't think u can really judge ppl by which uni they find better (although I know that the comment was intended to some specific ppl on this forum). and LSE can easily challenge Oxbridge in the fields it specialises in. but let's not get into that. again.

Firstly, I am certainly not suburban. I've lived in the centre of a major city all my life, and I'm not entirely sure what difference being "suburban" would make anyway. Perhaps eminent member W.A.S. Hewins would care to expand upon this notion? It's also fairly curious that you would make a comment about LSE being "wasted on people who get all their ideas from whatever media they expose themselves to" when that media has been, in part, this forum.

You won't enjoy it here and you won't get the joke.
What joke? I wasn't aware choosing where to spend a colossal amount of money and three years of my life was a joke.

Thankyou to everyone who has responded.

We have to take your word for it that you were thinking of studying at LSE. I really do hope that you don't bother. There's a sour, pompous, adolescent *****iness to somebody who starts a thread with that title. LSE would be wasted on you. As for the joke: you're the joke....

You people are very free with words like 'idiot' and 'moron'. But the worst thing is you never ever come up with anything of interest: you're boring, boring, boring...

No, LSE isn't full of people like that. Normally, intelligent people accept that other people are different from them, have different views and different ideals. As you can see, there are people who aren't like this on the forum. They think if you open your mouth to say something other than a recital from the LSE prospectus or BNP manifesto, you won't belong at LSE. This is quite obviously not the case as people from all backgrounds are accepted and go on to enjoy themselves at LSE. Whether the people on this board are alternative brands of intelligence, or just small minded *****, i'll leave you to guess....

You're the independent feminist who apparently can stand on her own two feet, but who dragged her boyfriend into it, to make threats, when she was losing the argument. You remember what he said, don't you, Clare? He said he'd like to anally rape my mother: what level of argument is that, if you're so high-minded?

Funnily enough, I do remember that and you must be intelligent enough to realise that I can't control what comes out of his mouth. On top of that, I didn't drag him into anything. Finally, you made sure everyone felt sorry for you because of that, well done. Oh, and spell my name properly.

It pleases me to misspell her name. Notice there's still no sense of shame or apology, and as for the boyfriend, nobody heard from him before or since, suggesting what..that he was dragged into it...

So it's ok now for people on this forum to make obscene remarks about each other's parents....

No there is no shame or apology, because I didn't say it so why should I be sorry? He doesn't come on here because he says the site is full of losers, to be fair he has a point. Better to make obscene comments about parents rather than girlfriends he thought, it was you that said about the knicker elastic i'm sure...

One other comment about Clare: she wasn't involved in the discussion, but chose to get involved when she saw my name...I've avoided communicating with her for a long time, for obvious reasons...but she just couldn't resist...now there's spite for you......and funnily enough this occurred at the same time as she was laying down the law about standards of discussion...It must be hard work being so high-minded...

To the person who started this thread: I got involved because I was answering your question, see my first post. Hewins: I look forward to seeing you next year, we might even be in the same department as I suspected.
