Southern Rail are on track to ban passengers from using e-cigarettes on trains and at its stations, the company has announced. The ban, which is intended to be for the comfort of other passengers, will begin from the 26 July.

The decision is expected to affect more than 150 stations and 2,300 train services, with many providing a travel link to commuters travelling into London each day.

Other train operators, including C2C, Great Anglia and First Capital Connect have already banned the devices, despite them being considered a safer alternative to smoking.
Does anyone travel to and from Brighton (to see the TSR headquarters) whilst using the Southern trains ???

I feel quite neutral about this whole business as I don't smoke and it doesn't bother me much that others around me smoke (as long as it ain't right in my face)!

I've also noticed how it's mainly the commuter train operators that have this ban in place (for people travelling to and from London) but no other train operators? :hmmm:

Do you find smoking a nuisance?

I don't like people blowing anything in my face so this is welcomed IMO. Some of the flavoured stuff also stinks too.

Good.

If somebody pulled out some incense sticks and started burning them they would be removed from the train, the only reason this is even a discussion is because of how prevalent smoking is in general.

This argument is the equivalent to banning someone for breathing.

It's not smoke, it's bloody water vapour for christ sake.

What a rediculous rule

It's completely unnecessary. I don't know why this discussion is still active.

What's in the water vapor?

If I was commuting in a train I don't want to have to put up with the effects of essentially smoking everyday in a smoke filed carriage. Same with vapors.

Having never really encountered them, I don't have an opinion.

I only want to breathe in water vapour from other people when it can't be helped i.e. normal respiratory functions.

It's not smoke though, there aren't any effects associated with 2nd hand vapour

You knwo this how? They are new, tehre is little reaseach been carried out on them.

The vapor contains the crap the smoker is getting a fix out of. When they breath out that vapor everywhere there is going to be chemicals polluting the surrounding air.

it isn't unreasonable to apply the smoking laws that apply to normal **** to e-cigs as well.

Suppose you were trying to quit smoking - would it help if you were forced to breathe in nicotine?

Personally I don't mind too much, as long as I can't smell it.

Not a huge story in my opinion because East Midlands Trains (who I use for commuting to university) have already banned any use of any cigarette in any train or station - including electronic cigarettes.

Some vapors really stink and I guess, like cigarettes, they encourage young people to smoke or whatnot. Generally, I don't think it's a big deal at all.

Ban e-cigs in carriages and leave two or three at the end of the train with permitted smoking.

Not against vapes, but trying to find a reasonable compromise.
