Soz, as a black person i know how important hair is but i'm lucky as my mum does my hair. Cant you ask around your black friends as good hairdressers are like gold dust and usually are known through word of mouth. As for toni and guy i'm not sure. soz for not being that helpful

I went to toni and guy once, but it was the cheap trainee night thing.
I felt sorry for the hairdresser, she was almost sweating trying to blow dry my hair (and this was when it was relaxed!)
They might be better normally, but I think you'd have to ask.

try black hair stylist as far as i no they only do english hair
i personally dont go there because there products seem to damage my hair more then pink and mines straight but i have patchs of frizzyness

i'm going to assume your hair is dark brown/black. to get it any lighter you have to die it twice to get the desired hair colour! i wanted to get my hair copper-ish,which was a great colour, but the hair dresser (black) told me it'd take two dyes before my hair would get coloured properly.on the first dye,you can see small hints of the new colour but only after you die it the second time,at least 6 weeks later, will you see the full colour change! best to use dark and lovely's dyes
as for blonde,i dare say you'd have to bleach your hair for that, and i don't know how good that is.best bet is to get hair extensions like the clip on type or get someone to put the extension in (not as expensive as extensions for caucasian's because to like sew it to your hair :p:) and you could get the blonde.
toni and guy and all these popular places don't do afro hair i'm afraid,or anything similar.
goodluck in finding a good person though because it's really hard.
if you're anywhere near finsbury park, manchester, nottingham or birmingham,i know you can find afro salons there

If you're really at a loss as to where to start, try the black hair magazines as well. They often feature certain salons and/or have lots of adverts so you can check some out via that.

I'm trying to sort my hair out. It's a mess. Keeps breaking :frown:. I was ill for a long time so that has a lot to do with it, but i really want it to grow. There's hardly any black hairdressers in Southampton, and i buy all my products in London.

£4.50 for some D+L hair gel in Southampton.

One of the reasons I'm hoping to go to a big city uni. Couldn't bear to go to a place with no hair dressers for afro hair, having lived in Birmingham for the last 5 years!

Birmingham has black hairdressers but not that many shame really

Reply 11

And quite a few of them aren't very good. Although my sister went to a new place today and they did her hair really well so I'll probably go there next time.

mix raced hair is not like black girls hair or white peoples hair so it's really hard to find anyone suitable. I am assuming your natural colour is dark brown and so it would only take one dye to get it lighter as our hair isn't the same texture as black hair. I think if you went toni and guy then they would prob do a good job as they will def have experienced staff and will have more experience of adding colour, I'm mix race and relax my hair but it's still got wild curls but I have learnt how to cope with it!

just go to anywhere in north or east london and ask any black woman and she will tell you where to go. actually just ask any black woman that has her hair done for the nearest hairdressers and she'll tell you

i think i might go to a hairdresser that my aunty goes to. fingers crossed they dont mess up my hair... lol

I want to get some extentions put in my hair (its relaxed) but it costs £80 here in Leeds! The thing is you dont know whether its going to look good/natural or horrendous/fake. lol. Its so hard to manage "Black" hair, now I see why my aunty opted for the BALD look! *shock*

i got mine done, check my facebook pic.
it looks realy.just don't get it wet,coz mine got wet and it got all frizzy so i think i'll have to add some conditioner to it,but it's cool
you can't wash it though, but it should last between 1.5 - 3 months.
i got mine done for £50.and i know someone who got hers done for less. it shouldn't be really expensive as it's leeds.my aunt got her's made into a wig,and she cut her hair.you wouldn't realize it wasn't her hair, until she took it off! was quite a shock when i woke up one morning and saw her with a men's cut!

Do you know the brand of hair extension she used for the wig?
