Congratulations to Magdalene M1 who comfortably outpaced us. Now we have to row sandwich :frown:

Horrible conditions today! :frown:

Oh, and some good news: LMBC W1 bumped despite crabbing, and M1 got a solid row over. Good work!

It was dire conditions - we were totally misaligned off the start and Girton got a whistle on us very early because we spacked it completely. However, once we got ourselves back together and settled, we pushed them away no problem, and despite some serious malcoordination from all of us, ploughed nicely into New Hall before First Post Corner.

I umpired the top 2 divisions - and I really don't envy you guys rowing on the reach; it was hard enough cycling! The Maggie W1 bump on Newnham was pretty good though - I was umpiring it, was very impressed with how they made it up.

And yay for W1, holding the headship in style

yay bumpage again today! very quickly actually, bumping 10 came straight after the wind, bumping just after the motorway bridge.
Reply 302
If the wind gets worse, as it is expected to tomorrow, will bumps be cancelled?
Reply 303
There was talk of cancelling the lower divisions today, as lots of crews were really struggling, and there were several accidents. M3 and W3 aren't rowing tomorrow, so they may plough on, but it has been known for them to be cancelled in the past if it's really too unsafe.

I saw that bump, it looked rather painful. I did cheer you from the middle of the large group of Clare spectators.

I think I saw you today. Were you coxing a men's boat?

A bit disappointed to get bumped again today. Apparently Eddie's didn't pull in fast enough after bumping on corner, so we had to take a wide line. Magdalene pushed into this corner and the rest is history.

I hear Downing III was moving backwards today!

M2 better not be cancelled tomorrow, or I won't be very happy......
I would be *so* happy if M2 was cancelled tomorrow. If we would then get a technical row over and be able to chase Magdalene unknackered?

Bank partied today for Catz W1. They looked quite good on the river today.

Does anyone have an idea of what kind of form Downing III are in?

Good luck for tomorrow everyone!

Well that was a crap day.

Apparently we were bumped by Corpus, but there wasn't any contact! They steered for us and missed at the start of plough reach. There was actually no contact, but they stopped rowing because if they carried on they would have been in the bank, and they were given the bump cos some stupid ****ing **** of an umpire thought we'd been bumped. There was even another club's boatman there who said there had been no contact....we've appealed but I don't hold out much hope. It was ridiculous because if they hadn't been given the bump that never was, they were in the bank, and we were still in the race. We had made up half a length on Jesus by this point. I'm well and truly pissed off.

Haven't seen them racing, but they should be of a decent(ish) standard. They've got 3 novices and the rest are last years May M1 and M2 rowers who haven't trained this term.
Sorry to hear that mate, it sounds awful.

We used our joyous position as sandwich boat to whip out on lovely row-over (awesome start, ending up winding the rate down three times because Caius II bumped St. Catz behind us), and then another completely mincing one (after a push for a bump on a very fast Magdalene crew, we gave up and chillaxed).

So we have to row over in front of a strong-looking Caius II crew tomorrow (which will be very tough, but doable if we row as well as/better than we did in the first race today). If we do that, we'll have a nice shot at Binson...

lovely day - bumped Kings no problem at exactly the same place as we bumped Jesus W2 on Tuesday... Had to pull in on the opposite side to the towpath though, which meant staying alert until the last boats had passed - couldn't even hold onto the bank because it was all brambles!

Chasing Robinson tomorrow, which shouldn't be a problem. Then all of Saturday to chase whoever's head of the W2 division. Our coach reckons blades and possibly even moving up a division shouldn't be too much of a chore...

Never speak about the b-word this early...I'm always amazed at how many people seem so confident about them, when everyone knows how much of Bumps is about luck.

HappyHupo - sorry to hear about that, sounds fairly rubbish. But in these conditions, the umpires have had it well drilled into them that safety is the most important thing, so probably they wanted to avoid more tangling if you'd carried on.

Well if you can hold off Caius then you should be able to catch Binson. I was watching all the M1 crews do their practice starts down the reach and they were definitely the slowest boat there. Good Luck.

I think FaT have the headship in M1 then, seen as though Jesus failed to bump Caius. They gained on them to an overlap at the finish, but were only just inside station coming around Ditton. So even if they get Caius tomorrow, I doubt they'll catch FaT now.

******

As for W1, Helenia, what chance have Clare realistically got of holding off FaT?
Reply 315
I really really don't know. I'm uber happy they've held off Caius for 2 days (or really ) but FaT are looking niiiiice. But everyone said that about Caius last year and Clare held them for two days, so we'll see. Unfortunately I can't be there to watch :frown:

Should be good. Our boat is practically a novice boat, so we'll see what kind of performance they bring to the river.

Can someone tell Downing III's stroke to shave and have a haircut? Yes, I'm talking about you Duke...
Well, Clare M2 is also practically a novice boat- we've got 7 of them! As opposed to Fitz and LMBC who don't :p:

I'm marshalling tomorrow morning. From, seemingly, 6:18am. ARGH!

Next time I see you I'll cheer you on. I definitely saw you on Wednesday but by the time I noticed, you'd rowed on.

By "novice" do we mean people who started this year rather than this term?
Yeah, that's what I meant- Clare don't have novices in Lent.

Although pretty much everyone in Cam is a novice according to the ARA anyway!
