Yeah, that's what I meant- Clare don't have novices in Lent.

Although pretty much everyone in Cam is a novice according to the ARA anyway!

We have a Lent novice in three if the four days of bumps.

How expensive is town rowing? I quite like the idea of rowing at home in vacations.

FTB, were you down at the river today? If so, can you give me a brief summary of what happened (either here or by PM)? I'm going to see Nigel tomorrow to update him on the Bumps gossip so it would be good to have some news from today as well!
I wasn't, I was stuck in the Classics faculty trying to read Latin (which I can't!) and trying to get my head around Augustus...

Free if you're a cox, pretty much

Other than that, it's probably something like £50 a year or so as you're a student.

Well, Clare M2 is also practically a novice boat- we've got 7 of them! As opposed to Fitz and LMBC who don't :p:

We've got 6...
Still not 7 :p:

Gah, marshalling in, ooh... under 4 hours time. And there'll be no-one on the river, probably. Silly!

ooo looks like someones going to be having a good chance of getting blades tomorrow!!!!

Bugger. :frown:
Selwyn, why did you have to get bumped so early? Ten more seconds and we would have bumped Fitz for you.

Ooo our Tit Hall M1 bumped again today! yay!
Wish I could have seen it. I think I'll probably be down at the Cam all day tomorrow watching, never mind working. Then Boat Club Dinner in the evening. Promises to be a good afternoon/evening/morning.

I was in that Fitz boat Childermass - really good race today, you just came flying around First Post corner and there was a moment there when I thought you were going to get us...wasn't to be though - Bad luck. I was really impressed, we'd dismissed you after you failed to gain on us on the first day of bumps, but you proved us wrong...(and really scared stroke and me!) - Selwyn should go down quickly tomorrow!

Thanks, if you don't mind me asking, which seat were you?

The first day of bumps was the first ever bumps for 8/9ths of our crew, so yeah we were more than a little spacky. Hopefully we've improved a bit and will get our blades in the Mays.

I was sitting at number seven. So I had a pretty good view of you! Me and stroke kept on trying to tell our cox that you were right behind us, but she didn't hear us - she had a big shock when she looked behind!

As I said, I'm pretty impressed. Definately looks good for Mays, but I wouldn't mention the B-word quite just yet...especially as you'll be pretty high in the May divisions; it's hard to get blades in the first division. Well, good luck! And I'll wave to you tomorrow

I've spent most of this week being quite chilled about the whole thing. Now it comes to the big make-or-break day, I'm really scared about it, just like last year. Here's hoping this time it works out better!
Caius II were, apparently, convinced they would have us today "no problem". So rowing over with two clear lengths felt awesome!

We were simply too knackered to have a decent shot at Binson, though. We've now rowed the full course four times. Eek!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I think I'm back to my normal level of bumps stress. Why can't it be over already?
An open letter to the Caius III cox:

When the bow-ball of the persuing boat goes past you before Grassy, you concede. Just because the marshalls are stuck behing an LMBC bank party and don't see it doesn't mean you can cheat and concede late. Like your illegal practice start.

GAAAH! Absolute Deja Vu. We've had the worst luck EVER this week in bumps- one actual bump that wasn't seen, a nearly-bump that was screwed over from the bank and quarter of a length off an overbump.

I just HOPE today is better. Surely you can't have horribly bad luck over all four days of bumps? (Well, you can, I just hop we don't.)

Good Luck to everyone on the water today! Gah, so nervous...

Well done Helen. You finally did it!
Yep, Clare W2 got blades.

M2 on the other hand didn't have quite such good luck. We pushed off hard to stay away from St. Edmund's M1 behind us, and had Girton and Caius bump out ahead of us. We gained about 3 lengths on LMBC ahead for the overbump around grassy, but unfortunately there was a patch of rough water, a boatstopper crab, and a graze from the bowball of Eddies right on the stern so I had to concede then. Eddies then failed to hold it up and I was hit on the head with a blade, but I'm allright.

Oh well, we rowed well and it was a fully legit bump. Plus as an M1 crew it doesn't feel bad to lose to them either.

Now, we have BCD tonight and the Hundred Sherry Challenge!
