well my one prediction was right: FaT head of the river.

but yay for the 2nd Emma boats - both blades - both by bumping Darwin I today!
Not only bumped Selwyn today, but scratched off the paint, took off the rudder and poked a hole in the stern.

In all fairness, no one likes getting spoons, but if there's overlap before first post then you're meant to concede and Selwyn wouldn't.

oh no! poor selwyn. but silly too. i admit. which boat?
An awesome bumps campaign. Everyone predicted us spoons, including our Captain and cox (who actually bought spoons for us!).

In the end, we maitained the second boat headship, made Caius II cry (we're told), and were less than half a length of Robinson when 7 fell of his seat.

No bumps, but still a better bumps campaign than we could have hoped for.

Have fun tonight everybody! I know I will
BCD! Good fun.

I've made a blade in the shape of a Dreher Fat Smoothie (TM) for the crew; i.e. a blade that looks a lot like a spoon but is actually the complete opposite!

W1 I think. They were in first division.
Might I take this opportunity to be the first (and probably the only) person to say

RAH RAH FIRST AND THIRD!

Gaining both headships is a truly amazing feat. Well done FaT M1 and W1!!!

One of our bowsiders caught crabs three out of the four days of bumps. Oh the hilarity!

DS, did you hear me when I shouted, "Good luck Maggies!"? Well done on holding Div 2 headship.

Bring on the May Bumps! I think I'll try to get a Catz M4 together. Should be fun!!!
Indeed, congratulations to FaT, Caius held the headship for too long.

Meh...I was hoping Jesus would take the headship in the M1. But well done to FaT, must have been three top crews who got blades. Impressive. Oh dear BCD...too much port...well done Childermass btw, Selwyn were slow to concede with us as well, but I think it paid off more when we were chasing them, as we didn't poke holes in their boat ....*giggles* HEhehe...ah...BCD!...mmmh port! =)

Well done Helen! (and everybody else who got blades)...Awesome! xx
Haha, BCD was fun. Trying to type when rather drunk is a bit of a feat, but I seem to have managed it without any spelling mistakes!

Doing the 100 sherry challene was silly- I did 12 sherries in less than a minute. Huzzah!
Bah -- I'm feeling even more bitter at not being allowed to row the GoR now... oh well. I'm just hoping my boat will stay together, since we have a place on the Mays and we can't do worse than the Queens' men's boat club did during this term. Two spoons out of three boats is not a great record...

Wooooooooo!

I was really nervous yesterday, because I knew what happened last year (we got to overlap on our final bump for blades, and someone caught a crab) but I didn't want to share that with the rest of the crew. We thought Queens' would be more of a challenge than previous crews, so were prepared for a slightly longer race, and basically just determined to make it the best row of our lives. And it was- the start was fast but controlled and we settled onto a great rhythm, and just ate up the distance, bumping them on First Post corner. This crew are yet to go past Grassy, so they've got a nasty surprise in store for Mays, when they're sandwich boat!

I spose I have to say congratulations to FaT, even though I'm gutted for our W1. Their W2 was following us up the division though, and on the last day as they were rowing home with their flag, they thanked us for sending down all the rubbish crews so they could get blades too - I think both crews really weren't keen on racing each other! There was a surprising number of blades this year, 4 in W3 division alone, compared with only two in ALL the women's divisions last year!

In summary :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Yay!! Got our blades too - spoiled slightly by the fact that we then had to row sanwich boat in division one, nearly caught Cats then our 6 girl caught a huge crab. We lost about 6 lengths on them, managed to make up 4 of those by the railway bridge but didn't have long enough to actually catch them. it actually took until we got back to our boat house for us all to remember that we had got blades and were therefore allowed to be happy!

At least it means that we've experienced how painful rowing a whole bumps course is. Until the last race, we never got past grassy (in fact, we got closer and closer to first post corner each race!)

Well done to everyone else who got blades - there were four in W2 division as well!
I was obviously hoping that the men would take the headship. But its not all bad W1 got baldes and the men and women are second so it looks good for next year.

F&T were extremely good... they weren't even phased by my enormous jesus flag!

They bumped really early as well. So early infact that I missed the mens II bumping by being too far down the river after powerwalking for like 40 minutes to get there on time. Bah!

Saw Women's II merrily rowing down the river with foliage after they'd just got their baldes though.

I like to think that I did my bit for FaT M1 by allowing one of their rowers to delay a supervision so as not to interfere with training. I will give myself a congratulatory pat on the back.

Well done!

I was quite worried that our W1 might be caught due to doing two extra races but they pulled through in the end. Shame Selwyn had to get bumped, denying our girls blades...

Who was the woman in your bank party shouting "Go go Peterhouse! You're catching them!" in the most ridiculous accent ever? That made me and my boat captain laugh like mad!

Well I'd better comment on the performance of Catz M2 (that's me).

Day 1: Awful. Our start was awful, our rowing was awful and our attitude was awful. We were crap. We weren't connecting in the water or working as a team. Two crabs meant that our inevitable overbump demise to Girton II was over by Ditton. That was possibly the lowest I've ever felt.

It was interesting to find out that Eddie's were disqualified for using a uni lightweight...

Day 2: Got bumped by Magdalene II. Eddie's didn't pull in fast enough after bumping, so we had to take a very wide line to avoid them. Magdalene pushed into the corner and we lost. Oh well. Compred to the previous day, we were much happier with our performance.

On the plus side, we did plough into some random black and yellow boat (might have been you FTB) and put a hole in the top of our bow...

Day 3: Rowed over. I know that doesn't sound very impressive, but compared to what happened on the previous two days, it felt like we'd overbumped. It also helps when you know getting bumped means that you'll never hear the end of it from a certain Duke_Flipside in Downing III. It got quite close at the corners, but we managed to push effectively on the straights.

Day 4: Rowed over again. Magdalene II were apparently six lengths in front of us by the finish. Not encouraging, but then again our boat is full of Michaelmas novices while their boat has their Captain in it. It was nice not to get (at least not real) spoons for three years running. Fair play to Downing. It must have been really painful rowing over twice on the same day.

All in all, a baptism of fire in bumps. It's been really enjoyable (although it didn't feel like it at certain points). Bring on Mays!

P.S. Sorry for the mega post...
