...then beat a Churchill crew who weren't really trying, and through to the quarter finals where we lost by less than a canvas to a Jesus quad that was racing as an eight. Who then scratched, but people in the boat couldn't carry on and so we've had to stop.

Oh well, now to get 1,000 words written in just over an hour...

What were you dressed up as? I remember an all girls Clare team.

As a result of Cardinals, I've not eaten breakfast or lunch. Nice. :s-smilie:
Whereas I (as a result of us spacking mightily) had time for a delightful pub lunch at the Fort St. George and a nap...

The FaT cox boat was funny. It was ironic that their cox didn't have a clue...
Their cox is our Boat Club Captain...

Oirishmen.

I had a large flagpole down the back of my lifejacket, we had orange-white-green tops down the boat and "T O B E S U R E" on the guys' backs.

WEHORR! I'm both terrified and excited at the same time...

Eights.

but the mens one isn't EHORR, it's just HORR?

but that explanation makes sense none the less
I THINK the women's races included Fours as well back in the 50s or something, as it was VERY rare to find female rowersso they'd have trouble making up eights, so the "Eights" part distinguished the Eights race that later continued. History FTW!

Catz Cardinals- silly flagpole:

Finally: WEHORR was fun, albeit hideously stressful at the start and finish. Eights EVERYWHERE in a massively strong stream- ouch...

meh, WEHORR itself was great - I'm mightly impressed by how well we did, and according to our cox we rowed most of the course at 31, and finished at 36.

Did have an upset before the start though. Leeds university drew a scratch down our bow, managed to not take a stroke away from us despite bow and me yelling at them, then had the stream slam them right through the boat next to my seat. So we had to race with duct tape attempting to block a three inch hole...
We set off at 34 and carried the whole course at 32+.

Did anyone see the wrecked Eight on the pier of the bridge at Putney? Scary...

I thought it was really funny how the Emma boat crashed into the bank at full speed. They tore off their bowball and delayed the next race...

In other news, the other Clare crew weren't very nice. Instead of listening to the marshals they decided to give themselves a head start. They insisted on turning their boat so that they were pointing into the path of the opposing boat...

WEHORR!

Pembroke College, Oxford + Putney Bridge = CRASH.

Pembroke seem tolike breaking boats, Tideway Slug recalls...

 Why were you at WEHoRR?

Anyway, a reasonable run for the Maggie girls. Down a few places, but only behind FaT and Jesus in terms of Cambridge colleges.

Are you talking about about the 7.4k race thing? That's insane!

I'm still talking about cardinals. I'm a bit behind you see...

Not bad for us. I know we could have been faster because I missed the stream at a few points and it was torture to get back in to it!

6.5k I think, but yeah. And I was incredulous because it is a women's race, and you were talking like you were involved. It's really obvious reading it back that you were talking about Cardinals

FTB: sounds fun. I've never rowed on the Thames, but I imagine the coxing is tricky for someone who's used to the relatively serene Cam!
