Just got back from London. My voice is very very hoarse :frown:
Ooof! First erg for two and a half weeks (just got back from two field trips) was a bit of a struggle...

I'm considering buying an erg in celebration if I pass my exams.

Wait. That's a bit excessive isn't it? :s-smilie:

Get in! Awesome day, even if I did have to phone home so they could confirm the result to me!
Got it videotaped.

My parents recorded it for me too. And of course if you watch it at high speed, you don't have to listen to the insanely irritating commentary!

I probably would if I could afford one. Back home, I pay nearly £4 a pop to go to the gym, so it would be a sound investment.

But I'll probably just join a town club in the summer...

I'd love to join a town club. Erging is fantastic exercise but I find it so insanely boring. Being on the water would be so much better.

I couldn't find any info on Scottish clubs near enough though. I suppose I could make it into Edinburgh every once in a while. Does anyone know of any clubs in and around the area?
Where abouts in scotland do you live? - there's a list of all the clubs here http://www.scottish-rowing.org.uk/contacts.html

Thanks. I tried that. It's crap.

Join Simoco!

Seriously, you will probably get a seat in the first or second boat, for Town Bumps during July. Plus there's coaching and other oppertunities during term.

The issues being a) I want to do CURLC devsquad, if they'll have me, in July and b) the problem I want to solve is not being able to row/erg easily at home, which joining Simoco won't help.

Also, your women hate Maggie men now, right? :p:

Sorry, thought you meant staying around in Cam.

You can buy ergs for about £150 for a ****ty magnetic one; but second hand C2s and so on can be had for about £600. Check eBay and the like, Rowing Service, the C2 website which has a forum, etc. Maybe get an erg for Christmas! :p:

I'm not really coxing those women anymore- I've got the Simoco M1
Boatie chat died while I was away :frown:

So, I'm going back for on Cam training on Tuesday (having had only four full days at home!). What's everyone else doing?

I'm attempting to run the Boston Marathon tomorrow, having done close to absolutely no training for it. The most significant thing I did was run 12 miles last saturday, because everyone was telling me I was crazy to try 26 miles without having done at least over 10 miles in one go. But I regret having done that 12 mile run because the next day my left calf started feeling a little painful, and it still hasn't healed properly. I'm hoping that it will loosen up after the first half an hour, otherwise I don't think I can do the whole thing!

And I also never got round to buying proper running shoes, so either way I'm gonna be in a load of pain I'm sure. I'm just hoping that the worst case scenario is only not being able to walk properly for about a week after.
Thought you meant the Boston Rowing Marathon for the first two sentences, got very confused

Good luck with it! I've done halfs in the past, but a marathon is a massive undertaking and a tremendous achievement. Especially with the paucity of training you've described...

I'm still deciding whether to row for Addies or Clare next term...
Reply 498
Methinks you should row for Clare... Isn't the Addies boat a bit of a piss-take? (Just a guess, not trying to be insulting.)

Btw, as of a week ago I'm now stroke for the Osler-Green 1st boat (Med school + Green College).

Yes, although they have a pool of quite decent rowers, so if we actually have enough time together could be potentially quite good. I don't want to do hardcore rowing this term, so I wouldn't be going for a high boat for Clare either. Either way, finding time to train would be interesting...
