Oh, rumbled. I'm just desperate to find out that secret "winning" formula... :p:

Well, the best winning formula there is turns out to be "don't come from Oxford"... :p:

Marshallin is fun and not excessively stressful. I like using a megaphone! I start marshalled for Head of the Cam yesterdya, some of you may well have seen me.

Well I think I know what it is....I just need to get elected to president to make sure it gets put in to use!

Thanks all for your replies

Elles, I'm aware what lightweight Blues pull, but that's during/after trialling. I want to know what times prospective rowers have pre-trialling. Thanks anyway though!

Willa: I'm just under 78kg at the last count.

Thanks

well for that weight, just under 7min is not amazingly fast, but if you put that it was done in lent term, and you've been rowing all easter term, then I'm sure they'll realise you can probably take at least another 5 seconds off that time.
Maybe I should do a 2k when my ankle's better to improve my guys' morale... :p:

Coming from Oxford has been a pretty good strategy for the last 6 years of men's lightweight races. Hence the "winning".

Good luck with that Willa! Close races, or indeed any race from Granta*, are definitely more exciting for the spectators at least.

* was that below the belt? :vroam: from this thread!

But, you see, Cambridge are winning the real boat race 78-73. Bearing in mind that both crews are normally the pick of the crop, and pretty evenly matched, then the only available answer is that you have more chance of winning if from Cambridge. :p:

By 'real' you mean the cream of Olympic oarsmen/internationals/random-postgraduates stacked into crews one?
Pfff, who cares about that - we were talking about CULRC & the Henley boat races...

Personally, I think the most interesting race is Goldie vs Isis, since it excludes the international rowers. Which Goldie invariably wins, by the way.

Okay, thanks

Just to let you know, I've now applied with the times that I said, and the 250m sprint I did this morning (have no idea whether it was any good or not  ).

Having re-weighed myself in the morning before eating and wearing clothes, I actually weight closer to 75kg!

Are you saying that a member of the German national squad doing post-grad land economy isn't a real student? Shock horror!

We do generally still win with Goldie, though, so ner!

Drove a narrowboat today- unfortunately there were no random LMBC or Caius boats I could run over :frown:

Evil bastard. Fair enough if you want to maim a Caius crew (I'd sponsor you... for the kids), but how could you harbour such resentment towards an inoffensive club like Lady Margaret...?

Hehe, first outing with Addies today. We were special. Doesn't help having 3 novices in the boat, I suppose.
Does anyone know about the Head of the Cam results? They seem...odd...Caius and FaT NOWHERE near the top? Downing taking the headship? Kings looking SLOW? Did a lot of clubs just not field top crews?

AFAIK, King's have lost their stroke and a few other oldies and have a fresher or two in their crew.

Got it in one. The FaT "M1" was basically their M2, as apparently was Caius'.

Inoffensive... LMBC.... inoff... Nope, they don't quite go together. This being based upon the fact that a certain LMBC crew with a certain TSR-erer at 5 (?) managed to run into my Simoco ladies' boat (and recieved an unexpected level of abuse!) last term on my inaugeral coaching outing. And the fact that there was some special parking from them that I witnessed today. :p:

Ooooh, I'm intrigued (we're chasing them in Bumps...)
A mate of mine (and member of KCBC) has been using the word 'spacktacular' far too much this term -- I don't think you'll have much to fear, somehow...
Did Kings have their normal W1 crew for the head of the cam?
Reply 539
Not really.
