It was on wednesday...our crew was fortunate enough to be behind and have an easy bump!

Tuesday or Wednesday, probably- it's only just been put on Tideway Slug.

Damn you woman! :p:

(I've escaped the worst of the hangover which is cool, though )

Oh wow, so did they mount the bank while they were still racing??? I assumed it was after they'd been bumped and they got pushed onto the bank from behind!!

I still can't believe I raced past that without noticing...though probably best I didn't, might've got rather distracted.

They also did exactly the same thing, to exactly the same boat, two years ago! Luckily neither boat nor rowers are injured...

I heard that two of the bow side rowers caught crabs almost at the same time and the stroke siders didn't drop out so they veered off course and onto the bank! Was one of our bank party that took that photo actually. Was quite a perculiar sight, and weird rowing past and hearing the cry of "hold it up" only about 200m into the race!
Am rather happy, our crew got blades!!

Yeah, we were worried that they may have been injured - they were lucky. I've seen the video of two years ago, they seem to have problems staying on the river..managed to crash a few times on the row up too!

What's the rule on going out in a double? do you have to have a stearer [sp] on the bank at all times?

Depends on the club. In a town club, no. College clubs generally stipulate it. It's very silly to go out without one, anyway, as the Cam is so congested.

well the times i was thinking of going out were during the easter vacation, when it will be a lot less busier and it'd be a pain to have to get one for every outing. We could just go out in sculls, but then the likelihood of me falling in increases tenfold.

I see. It's still reasonably busy during the Vac. if you go out at the wrong time- particularly weekends!

As a club safery adviser (yadda yadda....) I'd say that you shouldn't go out without a bank party. This is no only because of traffic, but also because there's bits of the river where, if you go in, you won't be getting out again any time soon, such as down by the Wall between Downing and Combined BH; a person on the bank with a throwline will make things a lot easier, for example by being able to hold the double in place whilst the rowers swim to Combined or whereever to get out.

See what your college BC advises. Most won't let coxless boats out without a bank steerer.

Just a reminder - if you wish to do well, fancy dress and bribery is essential.
(I'm marshalling btw)

Of course. I wanted to introduce bribery for Clare Novice Regatta, but I wasn't allowed :frown: :p: Damn you, Catz, for running a fun regatta!

We tried to bribe the marshalls when I entered, but we tried to throw the muffins to the bank and sort of missed. So it didn't work. Our fancy dress was awesome though.
We always miss out on the fun races. Our captain wouldn't let us do emma sprints either. :frown:

um... we just DIDN'T appear on the starting order thing, even though we sent off the application form and the cheque and everything, so we're not getting to race.

big disappointment:frown:
What?! But they were putting in extra boats right up until yesterday?
Sorry you won't get to race :hugs:
That's a bit silly, I mean they had boats scratching left, right and centre. Were Selwyn EVER likely to put out 6 boats? I somehow doubt it.

First night outing for a couple of weeks tonight, with a women's four. I hope the weather stays OK, I don't want to have to scratch it.
