Not a bad day for Clare, it seems. I'm a bit scared for our M1 tomorrow though...

ah man. sad sad day. two blue boaters, two other triallists, a triallist cox, a first year junior UK rower, and other guys who've maintained the headship before, a yellow boat, and we still get bumped. what the hell do we need to do.

even if your boat is stacked, but you havent had many outings, you arent going to be that fast. perhaps thats why caius got bumped, considering that they had most of their outings in 4s. eddies werent that fast either, despite having 6 rowers who rowed for uni.

Coxing is a bit of a thankless task. People resent it that you sit there and shout while they do the work, but if you get the line wrong, it can lose you the race (as happened to us today). No-one ever appreciates good coxing.

Our cox is the reason we bumped today, twas much appreciated, believe me

Row faster.

Hence why I'm rowing bumps this year...

To be honest it's not completely true. Yes, the difference a cox can make is generally unappreciated, but the Cam is a coxes' river what with all the corners etc. and a tighter line in bumps, for example, makes a visible difference. I certainly don't feel underappreciated with Chesterton, although the general standard at Clare is a lot higher. So yes, coxes are underappreciated because whilst it's easy to do it, it's harder to do it well- but they are not, generally, unappreciated.

Sitting on Grassy it's easy to appreciate what difference a good cox makes, time and time again a bad line lost a lot of distance as the boat behind took a much better one. Did anyone else happen to see Downing M1 go into Grassy?! Rather dramatic...

Having bumped yesterday we wound up as Sandwich boat between M5 and M4. Today is going to hurt, I think...

Sidney M2? I do believe you're rowing with my cousin

Yes indeed... from the rather privileged position of the Queens' stroke seat. I'll never understand what happened to Downing yesterday. To quote CUR1350: 'Downing [were] a long way away'. Having said that, they probably didn't deserved to get bumped...

Queens' M1 were down 11 in the last 12 bumps races - what a way to turn it round!

On a lighter note... was coxing our M3 boat in the fourth division. We hadn't spun by the 1 minute gun. No time to go into the bank. The boat in front of us (Catz 3) hadn't even pushed off. We ended up just rowing past them and pulling into the bank. It was a bit of an anti-climax to say the least. Was anyone else caught up in the late marshaling of that division?

There's probably going to be talk of how Fillippi boats don't go round corners well....

We literally just got the tips of the blades onto the bank, when coming in to park, when the one minute gun went. It was the first bumps race for most of the crew, so I worried at the time as to how they'd take it- at least it meant that they (and me!) couldn't overly worry!

That was a shambles. Needless to say our guys were not pleased at all. Basically all the crews at the bottom of the division took far too long over their practice starts and it all transferred through...

What happened to Downing anyway? And according to the radio Caius had some form of drama that resulted in them losing the gap to FaT so quickly?

I would expect Caius to re-gain the headship by the end of the week......
Are the Bumps charts lying to me or was there really a double overbump just now?!

According to CUR1350 page, Eddies II just double overbumped LMBC V.
We (Emma M3) got bumped by Hughes Hall yesterday :frown: . They didn't have the blue boaters that we were worried about (One of their boat had dropped out to trial for Beijing Olympics!) but they were still fairly strong. I think we're just hoping for a row-over today - the crews behind Hughes Hall looked like they were a decent way behind when we were bumped so they are hopefully slower.

dream on. fat has an advantage of clear water, which is a very good advantage to have.
Another double overbump?!??!! Are St Ed's doing these on purpose?!

It's only a small thing, but FaT have lost their blue boater now. I'm not saying it will cost them the headship, mind you, just that they'll possibly be a bit slower now.

In other news, wooo, bumped LMBC IV!
M4 was a little mad today - caius-wolfson and pembroke-lmbc bumped in the exact same place, so clare hall had to stop rowing, yet they still bumped a minute further along the course. i swear those guys are damn good. was pretty disappointing today - we were closing, closing, closing in on tit hall, but wolfson were just faster. wolfson'll bump tit hall in seconds tomorrow, so we're preparing for a long row tomorrow..

Pembroke got FaT, actually. Meaning M4 headship is ours to take tomorrow, provided we can actually get a crew together
