Another double overbump?!??!! Are St Ed's doing these on purpose?!

um... ooops... yeah, we were just double overbumped... Only, i might add, because we crashed and came to a complete standstill half way through, meaning that we did actually have to do another start...
They were very very quick though, it was quite impressive, and if you listen to the commentary we were really very close to the end before we were caught...

I would expect Caius to re-gain the headship by the end of the week......

I really, really wouldn't if they carry on rowing like they did today. They came past me at Grassy today and were looking absolutely shocking- they were rating about 6 pips lower than FaT and were rowing as eight big strong blokes in a boat, not a cohesive crew- they were munting it and going nowhere fast, hence why they were caught by LMBC who rowed far better than they did. Blues and big guns only makes a boat go fast up to a point- crew cohesiveness and actually rowing properly together makes a far bigger difference.

Saw you rowing past on the way to the start as we headed back. Looked pretty cohesive, shame about the crash!

We got bumped fair and square today by Selwyn III; my blade was touching the concrete piling for the first few strokes which bothered the rhythm somewhat; we threw the kitchen sink at Downing III and got to a length back before getting a bit scrappy around grassy with Selwyn coming up the inside to bump us; fair cop. Not too bothered; we'll see what happens tomorrow!

Edit: Oh, the motorway bridge appears to have turned a rather fetching shade of red... Maggie? (Rafe swears blind it wasn't them, not sure if I believe her...)
We were bumped by Peterhouse M2 today, but only because our number 6 was so fantastically strong that he actually tore his blade in half. I was in the seat behind him and it was a pretty impressive sight, I can tell you. We decided to row home with the broken blade held upright like a sail, which drew a lot of attention

Once we procure a new, super-reinforced blade tomorrow, we are going to take back the place that was stolen from us.

M4 was a little mad today - caius-wolfson and pembroke-lmbc bumped in the exact same place, so clare hall had to stop rowing, yet they still bumped a minute further along the course. i swear those guys are damn good. was pretty disappointing today - we were closing, closing, closing in on tit hall, but wolfson were just faster. wolfson'll bump tit hall in seconds tomorrow, so we're preparing for a long row tomorrow..

the only reason you were closing on tit hall is because 3 of them caught crabs in the start sequence! lol. But once they got back together rowing in 8s, you had no chance and they were on their get away. I love the 'special' lower divisions!

what are you talking about? it seems every tit hall mens' boat is **** this year. tit hall III is full of not very big guys and, having watched them row up the whole way, their technique is pretty rubbish too. today, i guarantee you, tit hall will get bumped within a minute.

just been looking at M5... very interestingly Christs IV look like they could overtake Christs III by saturday:s-smilie:

No offence to Tit Hall men, but you're pretty poor this year.

I reckon slightly longer than a minute- they're chasing us and I'm not excessively worried, but they might last as long as First Post corner where Selwyn got them on Wednesday. They're going to be throwing the kitchen sink at us today to try and escape...

Admittedly, style is not their best point! But they do have guts and sheer determination...whether thats enough for them to get away today remains to be seen.

LMBC M3 and Jesus M3 have a few. We've even got one in Jesus M4.

Woo, M4 headship! Up 3, let's hope for one more

grr, if i may say so, your boat is in a ridiculously lucky position to have rowed over two days!

Well, yes we're lucky to have not started in front of both Downing and Selwyn, and lucky that the lack of pressure from behind on Wednesday and today meant a nice long rowover (I'm knackered again!) BUT tomorrow will be a big shock!

Without wishing to be insulting, people and coaches will say that about any crew. It's either "You're rowing better than the people around you" if you're bumping, or "we're unlucky" if not and "you've certainly got guts" if they're on the way for spoons. Call me excessively cynical and you'd be correct; it's just that all coaches will say the same thing to their boats and, doubtlessly, at all BCDs the trustees and captains will stand up on chairs and engage in a big mutual pat-on-the-back saying how well everyone rowed and what an achievement it is, and how fantastic everyone was, and jolly good row chaps.

Incidentally, I liked Hall's crew hug and recital of their start sequence together under the bridge!

Good crews go up three, lucky crews go up 4  (He says, having NEARLY got First Division blades with bumps on three days and a stacked boat full of ringers ahead on the last!)

We've had our lucky day, so tomorrow will show whether we're good or not. Here's hoping.
We had an awful day today. Fitz got 3 whistles and overlap by first post corner then promptly forgot to turn and crashed into the bank and ejected their bowman. We rowed over. Chaos ensued in the rest of M3. The umpires decided that Fitz got the bump on us despite not meeting any of the criteria for a bump. And despite no-one asking us to concede during our long row over. Grrrr!

well, overlap is sufficient. it's on the notes of the cucbc website.
