I think they're seriously messed up as well. Someone I know from FaT was telling me just yesterday that given who was in the first VIII, he didn't expect big things - and yet they were somehow so much faster than the rest.

If you ask me there are only two types of race on the cam that are really conclusive: Regattas and bumps.

Okay, why does Robinson Head have some seriously weird results on the men's side??? Are Caius 1 deliberately rowing slowly?

Well, I didn't think they were as bad as the results showed, but FaT certainly looked the faster crew (I was on first aid duty at the finish) and Caius M2 and M3 were shocking. From where I was standing, conditions didn't vary much between divisions, so it can't be that... probably just one of those things

Bo, Blackadder :p:

Which, to bring us nicely back onto topic, reminds me that Hugh Laurie rowed in the Boat Race.

he also lost that boat race, and then went to America to further his career.

Now why does that sound familiar? :p:
Because it's the first inversion of a certain person who "lost" (temporarily) his (university) career and then went to America to race boats... :p:

i havent done any proper rowing since i got out here thank you very much!
Good luck to everyone rowing Bedford Head tomorrow*!

I'm very excited. It's my first proper off-Cam, ARA race!

*(but if you could lose to the Maggie boats that would be lovely)
Bedford has bridges. *Is scared*

*Hopes the (intermitant) ability to squeeze through the gut with inches between the bank and the boat going the other way will be useful...*
Can you go for a gentle paddle down the rivers at Cambridge or is it all rather competitive?

I think competitive is an understatement.

I've been a moron and calculated these in the wrong way.

My splits were actually average spilts were 2:07.8 and 2:09.4.

I've been dividing them by 10 and sending those off!!!

If you're in an eight then it's very competitive, but most boat houses have a couple of sculls that people can take out for a paddle if they like.

Hmmm, some very very interesting results from bedford head. If FTB was coxing the first men, he just won himself a pot. But I'm obviously more interested in the lightweight rowers performances - and if oxford have set their crew like cambridge have, then things are looking closer than I thought they would - with equal best times, and then cambridge being two seconds faster on the "second attempt". Did I make a fatal mistake in leaving Cambridge for a year - have I missed my chance to win a sodding boat race!?
Didn't Oxford crash on the second run, though? That's what one of our girls reported back to us.

I'd love to do lightweight DevSquad this summer. I wonder whether it's even vaguely possible, though.

Hmmmm, well even if they did, Cambridge still recorded a same time as Oxford.
And that could well have been the lightweight reserves and not the first boat!

You should definitely go for lightweight dev squad - you can get some good training out of it (and usually a medal/pot at the end of it).
I'm still trying to decide what to do next year, trial again or go for college boat club captain. Tis a tough decision to make - I really would like to do both!

Did you break anything? Some of them are a bit tight! As Simmo found out...
