did the sculler have ginger hair?

No, it was someone else from Christ's. (not to imply that we have no ginger people)

Went out today with the men's first novice boat as a sub: was really fun.

Woo. Beat my personal best, and we came 2nd in our race and 12th in the division.
Reply 1024
I beat mine too : ) by about 15s methinks... Not sure where we came overall tho' - when do you reckon the results will be up?

To continue asking annoying questions, I suppose:

Can a person both row and cox? That's what I generally do at my home club. This season I've been mostly coxing the senior boats, and rowing down with the novices. Next season I think it would be a more even split between rowing and coxing the senior boats, though. Would I be able to do this at Cambridge?

It's possible, but difficult. This term I'm both rowing and coxing. This is partly possible because I'm the Men's Vice Captain (equivalent to LBC at most clubs) and thus have a large degree of say in when the boats go out. I was going to be doing more novice coaching but I've cut down on that in order to make time to cox and row.

Oooh, you might (nay, will) know one of my best friends. We drove a car to mongolia this summer:biggrin: (he's one of the LBCs this year)

what are you talking about? novice boats?

edit: just looked at the results of queens ergs, caius guy did win. i see they're still failing to get the race orders right though (like they did last year), so the name on the website doesn't correspond to the person in real life...

edit edit: LOL. just noticed that the HR lady at the UBS assessment centre i went to the other day raced in the sponsors race.

anyway, in other rowing news, we discovered today that our bow 4 is 4 seconds slower over 500m than our stern four. considering how well the stern 4 are doing in uni fours (they're the quickest boat so far...), this is encouraging. well, except for the fact that we have no stamina.
Reply 1029
Yay, I am now stroking my boat. At this rate of sternwards progression, I'll be swimming in front in a week or two.
ok i shouldnt have invaded this thread, i dont actually row, im just friends with boaties and was proud of their achievements

according to the queens site they came third... or in your intellectual snobbery are you not counting ARU?
Reply 1032
Meh, no point counting a university in a competition with colleges, ARU should be ashamed if they don't win
lol well i was only quoting what my friends told me, didnt realise about ARU. but apagg has a point, its pretty crazy that they compete with colleges as they are a whole uni playing small colleges. they should race the cambridge blues team and then that would be fair
Reply 1034
lol. the novice blues team.
My last regatta was on Saturday. :frown: You lot are making me jealous! I got a silver, though.

Probably a 5km erg, should take 20-25 mins depending on the split times (2 minute average = 20 minutes).

The vast majority of people learn from scratch (or 'novice' to use the boatie term).
