Can you row at cambridge if you have never rowed before?

Yeah, in Michaelmas Term, each college puts out a couple (sometimes more) of novice boats- there are races and competitions especially for novices. Then you enter novice Fairbairns and are officially a senior rower (and are unofficially the boat club's bitch). I would say a majority (or at the very least, sizeable minority) of rowers in Cambridge had no previous experience.

Probably a 5km erg, should take 20-25 mins depending on the split times (2 minute average = 20 minutes).

Was a 2x 2k : ) not too bad

Just to give an example from my College's boat club. There are 40 male novice rowers this term. We only have three people who joined the Club this year who had rowed before. So, the vast majority of people at my club haven't rowed before they came up.

Same, reeeeeeeeally expensive, isn't it? I've just finished the order for £190, and didn't even order the uni-suit thing. Gulp.
Id imagine the comapnies (crewroom etc) give the boat clubs some kickback % from all the orders.

Yup! Mine's even a little bit more than that - uni suit with spaghetti straps (a few quid more than a 'normal' one), splash jacket, leggings and long sleeve top. I also noticed the mens' stuff is a LOT cheaper than ours *huff*

That's because yours is better quality, from the description your kit is proper sports lycra, designed to wick away the sweat, whereas ours is thicker and designed to keep us warm - not really what we need. Not sure why they're different, I'd much prefer the stuff the girls are getting. The girls stuff looks better too to be fair, even if it isn't technically our college colours.

Same! Our women's stuff looks like Jesus colours from far away... Men have grey and maroon (Fitz), women have black with red stripes, and the red stripes are edged with grey if you look really closely :P
Which college are you?

Yeah that won't be so great if bumps' weather happens to be like last years...

caius kit is subsidised by over 50%. it's good. i really want to buy a sexy short-sleeved tech top, but i can't really justify it..

no they don't. crewroom (i.e. JL) kit is a rip off - in the sense that although it is high quality kit, it is thoroughly overpriced. You can get some half-decent kit from other suppliers for half the cost. But the convenience of of the crewroom system means we all continue to shop there. Damn their cleverness.

massive confusion!! :s-smilie:
do I know you?

I *nearly* ended up there.. can I have 25% off..?

Pretty sure you'll know who I am, but we're not in the same circles. I think you worked out who I was before, but I've changed my username since then.
