Someone said something about the uni team being weighed down by a "fat cox". Hmm...

You should definitely go for lightweight dev squad - you can get some good training out of it (and usually a medal/pot at the end of it)

I'll definitely go for it if I've got a realisitic chance. I had a 6.59 2k at the start of this term (but obviously training hard so hopefully MUCH better by summer!), and I'm around 78-9kg at the moment.

Results are up.

I was coxing M2, not M1 unfortunately. We were 78th and 80th overall, having raced twice, and we beat LMBC. Woo!

Overall a really fun day. I had an awful cold, which made things hell but I'm extremely proud of how the guys rowed. We hed off the Oriel boat that came 12th overall in the second race, they didn't get any overlap until after the finish line and I'm very proud of that!

If you can get that sub 6:50, then you would certainly stand a good chance.
I sort of wish I was doing a longer degree now- no time for trialling. It's an "I wish I could..." situation anyway because whilst I'd say I'm an adequate, even occasionally good cox I'm not superb. Oh well, I'm happy with what I've got at the moment!

Isn't the upper limit for lightweights 75 kg?

no it's 72.5kg for an individual. But many of the people who do trial are above this weight at the start of the season. Generally 80kg is the heaviest you want to be to consider trialling - but it all depends on how much spare fat you've got to lose. The intense training and not pigging out throughout the year will generally mean you lose weight.

And I know how you feel James, there just isnt enough time!!!!! But if you've thought about trialling, you should at least try and do a dev squad. Being a quick learner is an important skill, and you may have what they're after if you just try.

Anyone know when the draw for Pembroke Regatta is released?
It's not up yet- check out the Pembroke website and www.cambridge.rowing.org.uk which'll tell you when it is.

Old and wise boaties, when is the river normally closed from? Would a 7-8:30 or 9:00 outing with my Simoco women's boat be possible before the river closure?

Yeah, I know that. I was just seeing if anyone knew when the draw would be made/released.

Looks like it might be an evening outing, then.

Coxing at night is good, because it's quite confidence-building.
I'm going to interpret that as a mistyped "sit" which, of course, means keeping the boat level...

I've volunteered for marshalling in the Cardinals Regatta. What exactly do we do? :s-smilie:
Judging by the marshals last weekend, you wait until a boat is past where you want it to pull in, then say 'Can you come in here, please?'. Also, you should issue random coxing instructions, like 'HOLD IT UP EIGHT!' and '2 and 4 take a stroke', so no one know's who you're talking to and everyone gets in a mess. Oh, and say 'You can't stay there' without giving any suggestion of where the boat can actually go.

Not that I'm down on marshals or anything.

I was indeed. Did the prolonged periods of arms-only rowing annoy you? It annoyed me too. I wish our coach hadn't insisted on that on one of the busiest mornings I've seen this term. To be fair, though, I tried to impede the boats behind as little as possible.

YES!

To be fair, it wasn't just your coach, lots of them were playing silly buggers today.
