Argh, our stash STILL isn't here, we've got our first (properly) senior race on Saturday and 3/4 of the boat will be rowing without stash. Gaaay.

In other news, I'm at the stage of lowering myself into chairs and walking down the stairs backwards, circuits have destroyed me. I've also got an outing on Thursday morning, meeting at the boathouse at 6.30, with a drinking society swap on Wedneday night. A bottle of wine + 6-8 pints + shots + 6.30am rowing = oh dear.

Remind me to avoid your boat on thursday then. Circuits don't hurt as much if you do them regularly, I did my third lot of term on Sunday and I'm fine.

How I love honest feedback. Today's outing: "good attempt on the new exercise, the rest of it was *****."
gah- to work late or to go to ergs...?

Okay so the problem with the lack of stash for Saturday's race has been solved, helpfully by us not being entered into the race by mistake...***** sake.

you do know it's not too late to enter?
We don't have stash either... or kit order has decidedly not arrived yet... I think we'll just look messy - lull the opposition into a false sense of security

How late can late entry be? I think its our secretary just making a mess of things, we were accidentally left out of a race last term as well.

well, for winter h2h you could just turn up on the day if you really wanted. just get in contact with the organiser at newnham, and i'm sure they'll enter you. they're not gonna turn down money..
Woo, moving the narrowboat on Saturday- looks like we'll have to go up between divisions and talk to the marshals...

James has a 7:00 am Saturday outing. He says he's not amused, he's not a student anymore and that time in the morning on the river has ceased to exist!

Quick question to anyone who might know - if you row for a city club, does that exclude you from rowing with a college? Apparently one of our W2 women has been doing outings with 99s, without telling anyone (she's also tried to form a merged crew with Girton, and now wants to row for Clare, because she want to row bumps. Which would leave us with three women for a W2 IV boat...)

I actually know who this person is from speaking with her personally. Officially no, but apparently Peterhouse club captain is going to bar her anyway. To be honest I think he's been quite harsh on her, she obviously really, really loves rowing and basically denied her what would be her last opportunity to row bumps.

And in the process has annoyed the whole of the women's section, insulted the women's captain and the captain of boats...and she could potentially row bumps next term, when we'll have more willing rowers for a W2, except now not many people want to get into a boat with her.
Gah. It's hard to know whether she's been vindictive or just a bit silly. Never mind.

I do, but it's a pdf, so i'm not sure how to put it on here - i can email it to you if you like
everyone looking forward to newnham short course on saturday? What actually is the course - I've heard its inbetween the railway bridge and the motorway, but is it downstream or upstream?

I'm kind of dreading it - I'm coxing a crew that noviced last term; there are a lot of tight corners on the course, and I find steering in that bit difficult. I just know we're going to be overtaken at the most narrow point of the river, with barges everywhere, it's sod's law - we're bound to crash the thing. And of course, if a crew does badly in a race, it's always the cox's fault.
I emailed you Chewwy - hope that's what you wanted.

And as far as the course goes, Galatea, I think it's rowed from the little stone bridge thing, by the motor way, down to the railings (which i think are half way doen the reach, but i'm not so good with matching up the names of stuffon the river to actual places, so someone correct me ifi'm worng)... it think. It's 1600m so not too bad really.

lol, are you corpus M2? i just sent an email to my crew (before reading your post), talking about the eventuality of us overtaking you. we may decide to leave a slightly longer pause before going off, since we want to set a good time.

Don't worry, there won't be any 'barges' on the course (there are v few actual barges on the river, you're probably referring to narrowboats) if the race organisers are doing their job. Powered craft should not be allowed onto the course during actual racing. We've got to move the Duck on Sat but we'll be doing it between divisions.

Yes we are - god please do; if you could leave it a good minute after we've set off that would be fantastic - we need our space! at the fairburns race we were overtaken twice, both at very narrow points in the river, and I crashed both times; really don't want that to happen again.

It's not really in your crew's best interests either to be too close behind, as overtaking will take more time than just taking the centre line down the river. What crew are you?

Hmm, we may or may not have a full crew for the race today...
