Tbh, i don't think it would matter if you didn't and still raced - newnham are being unbelievably disorganised...

Yes we are - god please do; if you could leave it a good minute after we've set off that would be fantastic - we need our space! at the fairburns race we were overtaken twice, both at very narrow points in the river, and I crashed both times; really don't want that to happen again.

It's not really in your crew's best interests either to be too close behind, as overtaking will take more time than just taking the centre line down the river. What crew are you?

caius. luckily today you were overtaken in an ideal spot, so that was good.

gosh, i really want to find out the results of this race now, and nobody in my crew is going to newnham's cocktails tonight. hmm... does apagg know jesus II's time?

also, i got my friend to film the whole race. awesome.

edit: looking at the video, your stern pair had stopped rowing when we overtook? why?

Meh. Not a bad row overall, but caught a major crab, so will probably come v low down.

******* hell, I'm never marshalling in shorts and a t-shirt again.

I've not heard anything. I'll let you know, but I suspect I won't know until the rest of you do (i.e when results come out)

Is Jesus Boathouse the general race results/numbers collecting place for everything, or just this race?

you generally collect from the boat house of the club who's organised the race, since thats where the times will probably be collated. At least that's the way town clubs do it.
Do Newnham row from Jesus though? i dunno! online's probably the easiest way, anyhow.

We moved the boat between divs 1 and 2. Did anyone see us?
I probably just missed seeing you, we were first of the college crews to row, so we got back quite early. I'm not sure i've ever seen your boat (i certainly haven't been aware of it if have!). But i'm not sure how that can be, because i do spend rather a lot of time on the river...

So you were in Div 1? We were still by Jesus Lock at that point. We moved to the P&E just before Div 2 and waited there before moving up to Baits Bite with all the boats for Div 2.

And I'm sure you have seen the boat, just not realised it. We are normally either at Jesus Lock, The Fort St George, or the Pike and Eel (actually called the Penny Ferry and currently closed down). The Duck is blue, with a red roof and a yellow stripe between the two. We're also 12ft shorter than an eight :p:
Hmm... well, i suppose that if you're at jesus lock or fort st george, then it's not so likely that i see you, because while we went down there as few times last term, we haven't this term and catz boathouse is further up than that. I shall continue to keep an eye out though keep my eyes firmly in the boat though...

edit: ooo... and news just in - we came third in our division! Yay!!!

Edit: *is failing at the strikethrough thing, how do you do it on here?* Hah - conquered!

and yes, we were div 1
Well done! We spend a lot of time at the P&E too, so you'll most likely see us there. We've been there several days out of every week for the last month.

yeah it was quite a smooth overtaking; although I'm not too keen on finding out the results - stern pair had dropped out for the rather ridiculous reason that our stroke had his hankerchief caught in the seat and his seat jammed - so the rythym of the boat was a bit derailed, and our stroke was rowing arms and body only for most of the race. I suppose if your seats going to get jammed, better now that at the getting on race.

Would you be able to send me a link to the video by any chance?

ah man. third again.

my results this academic year:

winter head: 3rd
fairbairns: 2nd
winter h2h: 3rd
newnham short course: 3rd

it's arguably even worse the ex-novices in my boat, who came third in their fairbairns too...

Yes, Newnham use the Jesus boathouse, paying a sizeable sum for the privilege

Meh. Near bottom, but allowing for crab not too bad.
god how embarrassing - 22nd out of 23, beating only St John's fifth team (who I suspect may have been one button short of a cardigan as they completed the course over 11 minutes; I mean you could walk it faster...). I said I'd text round the crew with the result when I got it, but I don't want to now because it'll just demoralize them.

The problem was hard to diagnose; we didn't crash or anything, and took a good line; I think it was mainly that people panicked and the rowing was jerky in general. That and the fact we lost stroke for most of the race as his seat jammed on his hankerchief and he fell off it.
It was so bad that some people on the bank, not even anyone connected to rowing, just an old couple walking their dog, remarked 'Gosh, those chaps look tired already' about halfway down the plough. Not exactly encouraging signs...

hmm.... we were robbed! the selwyn boat ahead of us had 4 of their first crew in, and considering we beat pembroke II by 55 seconds last week, something fishy looks to be going on there too. robbed.

I think there's something dodgy going on with most clubs who had lower boats in, but not a first boat. There were a couple of others.

In other news, we came last. Brilliant. 3 weeks to bumps...and I saw the Duck being moved between divisions (although was so cold at that point that I could have been hallucinating).

The problem probably stems from having a Dickensian dandy sitting at stroke, tell him to leave the hanky behind next time.

About to go rowing in the snow, ugh.
