So, they've redone the draw for saturday for some reason, making it tougher for us :frown:

Incidentally, and quite suspiciously, the women's first boats draw has removed the christ's/caius first round match. Maybe if they presented it in an easier format it'd be easier to see if they've rejigged every division like that...

We still have to race 1 more time compared to everyone else, although they've made our first round easier...Pembroke seem to have a very easy draw in our division. I'm a bit suspicious...

Oh, come on come on...

...you weren't expecting actual competence from a college-run event, were you...?

:p:
A fairly trusted source tells me that the draw will probably be re-done again on the Friday - if so, should be interesting to see what comes out.

Second place...
Did seem to run to time, though there was a bit where we were told to go down to the plough, then told that it had been a mistake. Apparently someone thought we were a women's boat :s-smilie:
Hey guys,
Grades permitting, I'm off to Clare next year. Just wondering what the opportunities are for rowing for beginners? Either within colleges or college wide clubs?
Thanks!

See responses to a recent similar question. In short: plenty. A large minority (40%) of people row at some point during their time here, and of those the overwhelming majority have never rowed before.

If by 'college wide', you mean university, then the university squads are enormously more difficult to get into. However, there are plenty of opportunities to race both in and out of Cambridge with a college club.

Bumpit!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awww crap, I have to work next weekend so I can't come to watch bumps! :frown: I'll just have to sneakily keep checking results on the hospital computers...
Who else is nervous about bumps???!1/?!?! I sure as **** am.

I was told someone last year had a panic attack and jumped out of the boat with 30 seconds to go. Someone on the bank who was a reserve had to swim over and jump in

Hmm, forgive me if I don't believe that at all... :p:
We might have managed our getting on race if we'd spent the entire race like we spent the last 30 seconds... On the other hand, it means I can spectate. :woo:

Don't worry I was quite sceptical about it as well. Very good coincidence that someone was right in the bank who was fully ready to jump in and swim over. All the same, kind of a good story. I think it was used to scare all the people in my year who are doing bumps for the first time
Haha, that's amazing. I don't care if it's not true, I'm going to believe it haha. This is going to be my fifth set of bumps and I'm more nervous about this one than I ever have been :woo:.

I'm getting that as well. Maybe it's something about being on a boat that's actually expected to do well. Given that only two of our crew have bumped before, and between the 9 of us we're on aggregate -35, we have a bit of a struggle.
Hopefully it goes well for you guys - if you row like you did against us at Pembroke you should have a couple of easy bumps near the start!

It could be lupus

The towpath is on the side where the boats are pushed off, why would anybody be on the opposite side which is also quite tricky to get to in the first place? Unless you mean after they were pushed out? With 30 seconds to go they should still be on the bank. I doubt anybody would have time to swim over to a pushed out boat, clamber in and be ready to row in 30 seconds.

What did happen last year is more exciting, an LMBC V guy caught an ejector crab, got out, ran along the towpath to catch up with the boat, and got back in and started rowing again. But was still unable to prevent being overbumped by LMBC VI.

The great thing about nerves is they disappear as soon as you start rowing, at least for me. As soon as you take the first stroke, you realize how little there was to worry about, you've done enough race starts and pieces to know what you're doing, and all that you have to worry about is pushing hard.

Heh yeah isn't it strange to be in a crew that's predicted to do well? I'm hoping to bump tues at least, myself and stroke are STILL yet to bump, I think we're on -24 between us. If we get what you predicted us on bumpit I'll be well happy.

You guys should be on for a good bumps, after your RH result you'll be looking at blades

You've jinxed them now :p:

Good luck everyone, unless you're either side of a Clare crew!

And the same to you and everyone else, unless you're on either side of a Christ's crew.

After 7 sets of bumps, I'm at exactly 0. Been bumped as often as I have bumped.

I'm looking to redress the balance come July...
