Work Experience - Biochemistry

I feel i have left finding my work experience till too late. I have just completed my AS's and this whole week i have been calling up hospitals, labs and research facilities whether they will take me on for a couple of days in the summer for work shadowing. I want to do a degree in Biochemistry and as far as i am aware work experience is vital.

I really don't know what the next step is. It is possible that i can get work experience in a pharmacy but im not sure how that would help me with biochemistry, it is more of a last ditch attempt to get something done over the summer.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
