Twitchy Eye

It's so annoying! The eyelid of my right eye twitches really fast. Other people can't see it unless they look really close but I can see and feel it.

I first got it around the last half of 4th year uni when i was totally stressed out and too tired. It went away as soon as I finished the year.

However, since Christmas it has come back and is almost constant. I'm pretty sure I'm not stressed, and I think I'm getting enough sleep so does anyone have any ideas what could be causing it or how I could stop it?

I had that twitch in my eye for a few months last year. It went away when I went travelling in the summer. There is no medication or cure for this. Its an annoying feeling but may go away if you involve yourself in things you enjoy, start laughing more, watching comedies may help. Hope it goes soon

I watch comedies all the time and rarely do stuff i hate (I'm just not polite enough to suffer through things). I even quite like my job.

Thanks for the reply though

It's generally assosciated with tiredness, so if it's not that, i'm unsure. I get it every now and again though, not dead yet!

Consult your doctor if it's persistent and severs by the day - he'd probably give you medical eye-drops for starters and monitor your progress from there.

Wouldn't worry too much personally because people get them occasionally, but like they say, better safe than sorry.

It's probably just something my mother tells me to stop me messing with my eyes, but apparently rubbing it or pressing it makes it worse.

I had this in both eyes, a leg and a bicep. I looked like a serial killer  I was very stressed out at work, and took time off and slept, a lot. I mean a lot a lot. And then everything stopped twitching.

I used to get that because I was stressed and tired. sleep loads and relax and it should go away

oooh I was going to ask this exact same question!

so everyone reckons sleeping and relaxing will make it go away?

It's caused by a damaged nerve in the eye lid. It should repair itself and go away - usually takes a couple of weeks.

It's your soul trying to escape. Through your eye.

You been to church lately?

I don't go near churches. I'm pretty sure I'd get a bolt of lightning to the top of the head as I was stepping through the door...

Hmm yes I got this a couple of times too and wasn't sure if it was related to tiredness. It took maybe about a month to go away each time. It was soon after I started wearing contacts, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Just thought I would add that my right eyelid now seems to be bigger than my left. I think that over a month of constant exercise has resulted in the muscles building up. It's not cool

Last time I went to see her she tried to put me on antidepressants. I know that I was not at that time depressed; i was merely stressed. As such, I don't fully trust her on matters that cannot be backed up by blood tests/urine samples etc.

Couldnt you see someone else?

To be honest twitchy eyes is commonly seen as a form of stress and tiredness so thats why she tried to put you on anti depressents although in my opinion you were right not to take them!

Is it the same constantly or does it get better?

I went to see the optician (separate reason) last week and mentioned my twicthy eye to him and he said not to worry that it is caused by stress and/or tiredness and will eventually go away. I was sort of hoping he would give me some miracle cure! Although in the last week since finding out I need glasses and wearing them my eye has stopped twitching so much. Maybe coincidental but...meh
