Part catered means you get breakfast + lunch OR dinner plus brunch on saturdays and sunday lunch on sunday.

At least thats what it means at Glen.

I liked Wessex Lane, and i like Glen Eyre, but Archers Road is not as practical for most campuses compared to the others.

Ah right, I got my info off my friend at Highfield Hall. They don't get lunch there, the refectory doesn't open there at lunch.

Highfield halls is different because they're small halls (like Archers Road) so that is also something to take into consideration for people applying. At the main halls sites (Glen/Wessex) the catered outline i've written about is what you get

everythings brand new here in chancellors courts. they didnt change the bricks, but where there used to a corridor of 14/16 people they changed it into two flats of 6, so some of the walls r new!! lol.
i was very pleased to be the first person to use my sink, toilet and shower!! lol. its sometimes known as the hotel block because frankly thats wot it looks like from the outside and certainly feels like it living in it! iv had so many people come round this yr and say how jealous they r. also cos i ended up with such a lovely group of people im totally loving the halls experience in the end- it all adds up! lol

The theme of this post is walkingf distances!!

So from what i've heard Archers Road would be no good for Avenue Campus? I don't mean to insult anybodies love of walking around, but i don't consider a 30 min walk unreasonable as i used to do this back and forth from high school. Are you saying it's more than a 30min stroll?

Did i get it right Wessex Lane would be around the distance to Avenue?

Glen is quite close??

I think these would be the only three areas i would consider as the small halls don't meet my criteria of en suite and self catered! (Is that right?)

Archers Road IS walkable to Avenue, like I said, my flatmates do it most days.

Glen is definitely walkable, Highfield Hall is the closest and I guess Wessex Lane is walkable too but I've never been there so I wouldn't know.

Firstly, MEOW! :p:

Archers Road would be a good bet for Avenue (not as near as Highfield halls though). Archers road is small halls, is ensuite, and is self catered. They don't have some of the facilities of the bigger halls, but they are nearer to Avenue than Wessex Lane. I'd say Glen is an equal distance away. I walk to Avenue Campus from Glen and it takes me about 20 mins.

You couldn't comfortably walk to Avenue to Wessex Lane, it would take too bloody long.

To be honest the majority of students apply to glen, and a lot dont get in. Wessex lane is the Biggest halls out of them all (I heard it was the biggest in the country.. No idea where Probably wrong..But it had to house at least thousand students?) Anyway a lot of people dont get to see it on open days either but It is a great place to live.
It is a comfortable 15 minute walk, and really not that bad.. I did it alot last year, also there are plenty of buses mostly double deckers. They Get the U1C at least 3 times an hour (Highfield, portswood, city), and the U6H (Highfield) and U6C (Portswood, city) twice.
Yes, sometimes the buses are very busy, especially around the 9am morning but if you get there early your fine. Because of the amount of students its a very sociable area with its own bar and laundry. Only 15 minutes to walk to portswood as well - Woo Jesters! Where as glen is a lot furthur away.

(Miss Sarky, I just came across you on facebook..We even share 2 friends! Thats why I love facebook, everyone always knows someone you do.)

I wasn't being bitchy in my previous post! Just putting a title to the post rather than starting an entirely new thread! lol! and the bit about peoples love of walking was so nobody replied saying it's too far if it's only 20 min walk (obviously 20mins would be too far for some people, so i was pointing out it wouldn't be for me!) lol you can never get across tone in writing things down!!
But seriously it wasn't menat to insult or offend anyone!!

Thankya for the replies

Anyway The walking is good practice for second year
Unless your willing to fork out the £180 fee for the bus pass then its good ol walking to uni every morning. Ive got very used to it.

Lol i deffinately agree with you there! Why pay for a bus when you can walk for free!! Plus buying new shoes every so often is more fun than giving it all to public transport !! Where do you live?

You get a bus pass included in accommodation in the first year.

I went to the open day today and visited a couple of halls...

One was DISGUSTING!!! It STANK it was actually sickening, and it was just purely grubby and it was like a corridor one with loads of rooms in it and a couple of kitchens and shared bathrooms with like 3 showers and toilets in them. No offense to anyone who lived there! But i just REALLY didn't like it.

The other one was one of the newer ones, it didn't look very attractive from the outside but it was actually quite nice inside! The rooms looked nice, it smelt nice and the kitchen was pretty cool with a lush oval table! I just wish it was ensuite but it wasn't.

Can't remember their names though :p: in Glen Eyre though.

I want to go to South Hill, i haven't actually been inside but it looked lush! Is it nice and is it competative to get into or not?

When/if you get here avoid the stairs in the SU next to the Bridge bar - they lead down to the sports changing rooms and they really hum too:biggrin:

Haha, I never use them, they do smell!
