how much can you download without being moaned at? i currently download 70GB+ per month so i know il have to cut down a lot at uni :colondollar:

Is southampton a uni that monitors your usage of the internet?
I'm guessing torrents arn't the best idea.

Most torrents are blocked. If ports are open, it is done on the sly and if ISS find out you usually get in a lot of trouble....

well you can use msn in halls, everyone is on allmost constantly, not sure about the uni ones, most seem to be internet computers only, however i think you can use it in the computer rooms.

The comps in the internet cafes and uni lobby don't seem to have MSN but all the ones in department computer rooms do. It's crappy old Windows messenger though.

What sorta people choose chancellor courts? It says its for undergrads/postgrads and mature students so does that mean there is a range of people or are most of them just all undergrads?

in chancellors courts there is a bit of a mix. two of the courts- jellicoe and selbourne are nearly completely undergrads. most of roll is postgrad/mature students except for the 3rd floor. i live on the third floor in roll and we'r all undergrads. we'v never had a problem with living surrounded by postgrads rly, since theres a lot of us on the same floor that are friends.
the uni always tries to seperate post and under grads, altho this can mean seperate flats rather than the entire block, depending on how big the block is- chancellor courts are 4 floors high whereas richard newitt has 12 people in each small building i think.
however there are some people who are in with mixed age flats, usually because they applied late or transfered and that was the only place available

I have received a rejection from my other first choice uni so looks like i'm going to put Southampton as my firm !!! Woooop! At mo just considering it against Nottingham!
As for the accommodation issue, am i right to think i will receive my student number thingy when i accept their offer? Will i also get the accom booklet and application form or is it all cyber-based now?!
Also, on the form do you think it's worth me putting down somewhere as an added thought, i'd likem to be with clean / tidy people!! lol! I hate mess and it would drive me nuts if i was with messy people who didn't tidy up the kitchen after use! Hence the main reason i'm opting for en suite! Plus the fact im tiny and shower head height isn't really an issue for me! lol!

Oh after thought.... What is the uni like with having mates over from home and boyfriends etc to stay with you? Is there any rules regarding this or do you get to do what you want? Also, i'm not use to living at home, been living on my own (with b/f) for 2 n half years - just wondered if they put curfews on the halls or lock themn or anything to prevent you getting in/ out after a particular time. And what is the lock people have reffered to in previous posts apparently an alarm goes off if you open it??? I'm confused!!

Hey i was also chosing between Southampton and Nottingham for firm/innsurance! The student ID comes on the offer letter that you probably already have. If you lost it then phone the accomodation people - I think there is a little note about what to do on the form itself. Hope that helps.
