The roof of the Pav got blown off yesterday. I'm actually quite gutted because we got the SU president to book Hed Kandi for us, and I doubt it'll be fixed in time. I am more than just a little bit upset.
Some of the houses in Castle Irwell got their roofs blown off too apparently
The rumours I heared back in 2001 is that the entire Castle Irwell estate was not fit for purpose had been condemned. The Pav in particular was supposed to be demolished. I am not sure what they intend doing with the estate but I always thought apart of the modernisation place was to get rid of the troubled Castle Irewell estate once and for all.
Probably the beginning of the end for the Pav to be fair, not sure about Irwell though. Perhaps a new location for a pav-style bar nearer to uni would signal the time for new student accomodation. The trouble is, where would they put the new accomodation to still have the capacity of Irwell without building ugly high rises?
The pav is in a crap location for the many students that don't live on campus. Also Castle Irewell is not exactly in a nice area but I guess it is secure.
I've heard that the Pav might never reopen, due to the extent of the damage, apparently it's far worse on the inside than it looks from the outside. Rumour has it, the Lowry may be turned into a mini pav, provided they can get a license for it.
I'm seriously gutted, it's like losing a friend. Pav nights out were unique!
My flatmate told me about the Lowry fire, funny that both the Lowry and the Pav suffered such fates on a Thursday. If you ask me, Thursdays should be cancelled indefinitely.
The Pav might be reopened sooner than was originally thought, though. I'm waiting on getting that officially confirmed, but rumours are circulating that it might be. I believe there's a fundraising do in the very near future.
