It is. But I like crustyness, it's a bit fun. Plus New College girls more than make up for it.

This is quite a long thread now, but I've only heard from one or two people on it that are considering "rejecting" Oxford. Perhaps that's all there are!

No i'm seriously considering rejecting Oxford for LSE-everyone keeps telling me that LSE's is a better degree! But i still find it hard to imagine saying no to Oxford-its about 50/50 at the mo-i just can't bloody decide

Hmm... if it's 50:50 and you think LSE's a better degree then your head probably says LSE and your heart Oxford. I'd go where your heart tells you! You are unlkely to regret that decision, and I don't think you'll be any less challenged at Oxford or suffer unduly from having gone there. Best of luck with the decision.

Drogue told me LSE have given a single First for geography in the last five years. That's not good.

True, except he's got an offer for IR at LSE and Geog at Oxford. Hard choice. I'd still go for Oxford, as I love it, but it's a case of name vs course. If you love London, LSE could be a good choice. Bit weird though, as very different degrees.
Oxford. Go to Oxford, then change course, simple.

If you can't do that, still go to Oxford.

i considered turning oxford down, mainly because i knew that the second year of my course would be a complete bitch and that i would hate it.

i would like to be able to say that i was wrong. but i am not.

i still wouldn't be anywhere else - i'd rather be overworked and miserable than feel like i was settling for easier second best - but, my god, is it depressing. i object to anyone here who seems to imply that oxford is just GREAT because IT'S OXFORD!! because that is a load of *******s. like any university, it has its good points and its bad points. if it's not for you, don't be afraid to turn it down. otherwise, go for it, just remember to remove your rose-tinted spectacles first.

What the bajeezers is punting? It sounds awful.

ShadyLane- why do you dislike (or appear to dislike at least) Oxford so much?

And what music do the clubs play?

Moving a boat along a river by poking around with a wooden pole while trying hard not to look too silly and/or fall into the water.

Everyone can choose to go punting if the want to - most of Wadham went punting after we matriculated - and it's a lot of fun, but if it doesn't appeal to you, no one's going to force you to. It's just a silly Oxford form of (often drunken) recreation.

I actually think it can be really relaxing, just being out on the river, saying hello to passers-by, looking at the ducks, listening to the water... it's a great way to spend a summer evening

Provided my friends aren't rocking the punt/racing each other it IS pretty good fun. Apart from the occaision when a duck bit me :s-smilie:

I don't know if this will affect anybody, but I would like to remind all those who actually post about rejecting Oxford, and go to great lengths to describe the intricate thought processes leading up to this admirable use of free will, are eligible for a large badge reading 'I rejected Oxford!!! Look at me!! LOOK AT ME!!!'. I myself enjoy seeing the look on Oxford University's face as we confine it to a corner, in tears, and prove that even though we slogged out our guts in filling out all those bloody registration forms, bothered to attend the interviews, tried to make the best impression on the interviewers, sent off all those essays, went up there countless times on open days, sweated copiously over the application and personal statement, we aren't really that bothered anyway about actually going. Haha, Oxford, we fooled you this time! How does being rejected feel? Eh? *puts thumbs in braces and struts about, feeling superior*
Yes. Don't crucify me now for lack of empathy. Or intelligence. Or anything else. Please?

Nonetheless, it is ridiculous to claim that you should only apply to Oxford if you are 100% sure you want to go there and it's your life dream and you've fantasized about the dreaming spires since infancy.

Actually, Oxford or not, all universities would want you to apply there ONLY if you are 100% sure you want to attend. So, it is not really that ridiculous.

Let's face it. LSE, Imperial, or any other universities for that matter, would love to be in Oxbridge's position to give out just enough offers because they know the applicants ONLY want to go there and no where else.

Well, just my 2 cents anyway :p:
