Rothschild or KPMG? (summer internship)

Hi ppl,

I currently hold two offers for a summer internship

1.Rothschild (IBD)

2.KPMG (Transaction Services)

I am wondering which one to accept.. it depends on a number of factors.

KPMG: Advantages are:

80% chance of getting a grad job after internship
ACA qualification
Interesting work (compared to audit or tax)
Can go straight to Associate level at a bank, after qualifying with ACA. In fact, the MD interviewing me at Rothschild was from KPMG with an ACA.

Rothschild: Advantages are:

Working directly on M&A deals. More exposure
Better pay
(easier?) to get into associate level, compared to external recruitment.

However, less chance of getting grad job.. and small chance of gaining further professional qualifications.

What would you all think? On a C.V, which name would look better?

Thanks ppl!

Congratulations on your offers. It's also good to see some people actually think about the decisions they have to make, and not simply ask, 'which is bettter, x or y?'

Anyways, the better name on the CV would be Rothschild, especially since they are considered pretty good for M&A. Also, I think you have to consider what type of work you wish to go into? Transactions Services is different from IBD; it is more due-diligence work.

Also, from PwC I have found out that internships are actually more competitive than graduate programmes. So this means if you got an internship offer, you are most likely to get into the graduate programme for KPMG, should they not look down at you for rejecting them in the first place, of course
I can't believe you're even CONSIDERING KPMG given an offer from Rothschild...

I'd go for Rothschild.
Top M&A division, smaller team than BB so you will be learning more, get more exposure to deals.
Furthermore, I would rank Rothschild in the top 5/6 for M&A in London, with GS, Greenhill, MS, Lazard and perhaps Citi, but this is a personnal opinion.
