Poor posture?

I have really poor posture. It's not because I have low self esteem or anything, it's just really bad! My shoulders come forward alot, creating a sort of, for lack of better words, hunch. It's no doubt because of all of the books that I carry! :P I've been trying to correct it for a while, just by trying to sit up straight, but sometimes it's too tiring to do this and slouch again.

Any tips? Does anyone know if devices such as these work:

Thanks

Personally I sorted out my posture just by thinking about it a bit. I was a rower, so a good posture out of the boat makes a good posture in the boat. Took me about a week to be honest. It'll come naturally after that.

Essential to have a decent chair as well walking up right correctly.

I used to have that problem! I think it originated from me being really tall, but I used to slouch forward just like you described and frankly it wasn't a very attractive look! What I did to 'cure' it was to tell my friends/parents to yell at me if they caught me slouching, and I wore high heels a lot (it's really hard to slouch when walking in high heels). I wouldn't worry about the back brace thing, some people just grow out of it and others (like me) sort it out themselves. If you're always conscious of it then you make a bigger effort to make sure you're standing up straight. If that makes sense?

Oh and also, make sure you realise when you HAVE grown out of it. I didn't realise until a few weeks ago when one of my friends pointed out that I was still subconsciously standing up so straight I was bending backwards!

Thanks guys, I didn't realise that it was as bad as it is until my friends asked me if I'd grown a hunch! I was mortified!

I used to be extrememly small, and then suddenly grew so that I'm quite tall even when I slouch (about 5 ft 8") but I find when I'm standing up straight it looks.... like I'm trying to hard? I don't know.

Maybe this is why I can't walk in high heels!

Yeah I know what you mean, I was 5ft4 for ages and I suddenly shot up to 5ft10/11 and I don't think my body had time to catch up!

And yeah it does feel weird at first, like you're trying too hard or like you're trying to look down your nose at everyone, but trust me if you look in a mirror whilst you're doing it it looks so much better! And plus it makes you look thinner apparently if that's an issue to you...

Thinness isn't an issue, but they way I look is. Everyone looks so much better standing up straight, so I'm going to make every effort from now on. I've heard you feel alot more relaxed, and I'm all for that!

Good for you  it does make you feel more relaxed because you're not always self-conscious about it! Like a big weight off your shoulders (which I guess it is in a way  )

Good luck!
