Perfect life but not happy.

I seem to have a great life. I have done well in state school have a middle class familly go on lots of holidays have a normal amount of friends and have a girlfriend. Yet i still feel that there is something missing in my life and i think its to do with my aspirations. I really want to be successful at something but i dont know what it is yet. I have no real aim in life and am just working hard at whatever seems to be the logical "next step". I long for a final goal and feel gelous when people say they have a target such as "i really want to be a doctor" or something like that. None of those careers really appealed to me and im now doing a degree that im hoping will give me the most options. What should i do? I need guidence.

It's a bit silly when someone says they definitely want to be something, their mind might completely change once they've given it a go. I'm in the same boat, I have no idea what I want to do with my life, no goals to speak of, but I guess things might sort out in the end. Think about what subjects you enjoyed at school - maybe a career involving that? If you like kids, something to do with kids like teaching maybe; if you like writing, maybe look into being a journalist. Having open options can be a blessing and a curse, but it depends on how you deal with it. Hope I've helped even a little bit.

Some of the most succesful people in history didnt know what to do with themselves, take Richard Branson for example.

I cant help thinking that if i hadnt had such good parents i would of been one of the people who went of the tracks during GCSEs and i should be working in Burger King right now. I am greatful because my parents have given me a strong work ethic.

Well your aspiration doesn't have to be a highly posative one. Perhaps what you really want to do is slightly negative. Getting hammered and swimming across the thames? Find something you really want to do, and do it.

Try something you haven't done before; look around where you live to see if there's any clubs or lessons in things you like, Martial Arts, Drama, Musical Instruments, Languages, Fishing, anything! If there's nothing around you could try stuff in your house, for example writing, drawing or reading. Just try new things out to see if you like them, if you don't you won't know what you like or don't like.

how old are you? are you enjoying your course? reason being that you say ur doing a course that will give you the most options... fair enough but is this gonna satisfy you later. its not about how successful u are in life.. its about enjoying life regardless if your gettin alot of money or not.

Lol sounds like a plan. Seriously though ive thought about wanting my own business and have always had an interest in computing and geography but ive never seen a link and i want a secure income which im not going to get if i follow this idea. At least not for a good 10 years i recon.

Well go half way towards it or something. Read into it, stuff like that. You'll feel happier about making progress towards it.

Ok thanks. I also have alot of interest in sport. Specificly rugby and i have a good job at a lesiure centre that gives me free use of all the stuff. Ive thought about going into that but it just seems to small minded. Like alot of the duty manager jobs involve litter picking and basic stuff like that, i think i would be happier with a job that has abit of an edge to it and abit competitive.

I've got a lot happier since I started doing weights. Its like I'm actually going somewhere now. Things to look forward to each day, feel happy about after I've finished, check my progress. And I can see results. Its pretty good when some random comments on your private hobby (damn I look fine, etc.). Might be something to do while you're waiting.

If you like rugby, why not look at a career in the sport? Doesn't have to be playing, although joining your local rugby club would be a good start. Get the experience, and if you like sport, train to be a coach.

Or, keep it as a weekend-only thing, you can have a "proper" job in the week and devote weekends to rugby.

Try lots of different things, as others have suggested, and see what makes you sit up and go "oooh!"
whats wrong with litter picking?? its a respectable honest job.. not everybody can get good paying jobs.. there wouldnt be anyone to sweep the streets if everyone was high flying...

are you scared of risks?
I'd love to be an actress but I know it really isn't easy and I'd like to become one of the really successful ones :P
So basically my plan is to get a "real" (as my pathetic parents call it) degree in science before I run away to join the circus. So that I have something to fall back on if I really can't live out my dream.
forgot to add, just do what you love and hopefully the career should come along naturally....and possibly have a back up plan

I'd love to give up school and get hammered every night. Unfortunatly I am scared of risks and the slightest chance of not being a professional partier scares me (even though for me it is a very small risk). Instead I've decided to take up my oxford offer, and then live out my dream when the time is right - from freshers week onwards.
go y0da, anyway i just wait it out, i was sometimes unsure as well but the best thing to do is to wait it out, the way i thought of my aspirations was what would i enjoy doing, not what would give me themost money and soon and pursue that, usually aspirations will change for me and over time they will refine into something i really want. ANyway good luck in trying to find an aspiration.
