What's a lovebite/hickie?

and more pertinently... why would anyone want one?

(posting as anon cos i feel a bit naive about this!)

Basically one of my friends who is 22 came into class 'showing off' a bruise on her neck: a lovebite.

Firstly I feel it was a bit immature considering her age, cos I've only ever come across them in American teen movies. Or in H&R :rolleyes:

But more importantly, I don't really get the point of them! I'm in a 2 year relationship and I've never felt the urge to cause my boyfriend pain by bruising him! Is it a normal thing to do? How do you even go about it?

Yeah my mum saw one on my neck once. Didn't even notice or I'd have punched him! What a weird thing to do. Needless to say he's now an ex-boyfriend :rolleyes:

Heh heh I used to think it would take hours. Unitl I sucked thoughtfully on my arm one day (yes strange I know) and it came up red :redface:

Not too red luckily and faded in a little while. That could've been embarrassing to explain. Er.. Yeah.. I did it myself.. :rolleyes:

not really hard no - you have to suck well, more than just a mere lick for example lol, but nothing drastic. It happens very commonly by accident when people are getting very passionate, so you can see it's not something that requires a great deal of force lol.

Damnit just suck your arm and see :wink:
