GMAT/GRE preparation courses

Hi,

Does somebody know whether there are GMAT (or GRE) preparation courses
in the UK (e.g. at universities)? I'm interested in high intensive courses
(i.e. daily teaching, lasting about 2 month) which are appropriate for
foreign students. I would appreciate further information!

thanks in advance

I think GMAT is quite easy, and you can prepare for it yourself. You can start with the Official Guide, 11th edition. Then if you feel you need more practice in a certain section, you can buy the Quant/Verbal Official Guides. Then, to round up your prep, you can get the Kaplan 800, which has the toughest level of quant of all GMAT prep books. I think if you do all this for about 2 months, you can easily target 750+.

Also, make sure you solve lots of practice tests. Do solve the 2 free tests available on GMAT.com(GMATprep). Believe it or not, the score you get in these tests after you finish your preps will be very close to the actual score you can expect to get in the main GMAT test. For example, I averaged around 730 in GMATprep, and I would have got that, if not for silly mistakes/nervousness.

I had around 7 days to prepare for GMAT, and I got 680, and I'm disappointed that I couldn't cross 720-730(I messed up a couple of easy quant questions).

Ok, thank you so far for the prep. information.
But I'm still interested in preparation courses abroad because this will also
improve my english further. Therefore i'll get two things at once (gmat prep.
and a stay abroad).
So anybody knows about gmat preparation courses???

thx

Yeah, Kaplan is excellent. Even Manhattan GMAT is good, but stay away from Princeton. Princeton is only good for <650. For 650+, Kaplan and Manhattan are good.

For more info on GMAT and prep courses, visit pagalguy.com. They have a forum for GMAT in there. It's very very informative.

I personally like Princeton Review, but I'm not very familiar with Kaplan. However, the study book for the 2007 GRE is going to be a bit outdated, since the GRE is changing a bit this year.

They also cater to more online preparation, but they do have interactive/live GRE prep.

Good luck!

A friend of mine did a couple of the papers that were on the GRE website for practice and got 800/800 on the quant. 730 on verbal and 5.5 on analytical writing on the acutal exam.

He didn't spend either a penny nor time on intensive preparation. If you're able enough to get a good degree classification, you're able enable to do well on GRE without massive prior input.

IMO these money making schemes are a con - you are paying money to give you more confidence, not better marks.

Hi,
I am new to this group just wanted to know that apart from kaplan's GMAT books is there any online course that will be helpful? Recently I came through an online course called veritas. They claim to be better than princeton, manhatton and even kaplan's online preparation course.Has anyone heard of it?...Please suggest.

Are we allowed pen and paper and calculator? Also, are there breaks between the parts of the exam?

It's been a while since I've done the GRE. You are allowed scratch paper and a pencil, only a four function calculator if taking the computerized exam. Short break after the 3rd section of the exam.

Your post did not specifically say GMAT, and the thread is titled GMAT/GRE..

Anyway, for the GMAT: A calculator will only be provided for Integrated Reasoning. Noteboard/marker for quantitative.

2 breaks - one in between Integrated Reasoning/Quantitative, and the other between Quantitative/Verbal. Max of 8 min.

Do we type the essay or we just write it handwritten?

If it's a computerized exam, it should be typed.

Search online for practice exams. For the most part, the quantitative section should be similar to A level. Another option would be buying a GMAT prep book.

There aren't that many questions, so I doubt there would be changed numbers. Similar concepts may be applied, but seeing the exact same one would be rare.
