If you are faced with multiple intervals in a cdf and asked to find the median, which would you pick? The intervals are all 1 e.g. 0<x<1 and 1<x<2

You pick the interval a1xa2a_1 \leq x \leq a_2, where F(a1)0.5F(a_1) \leq 0.5 and F(a2)0.5F(a_2)\geq 0.5. Because the median is where F(m) = 0.5 and F is increasing.
