Not sure what the hell that is, but milk is slightly alkali, so it'll help stop acid. I'm assuming of course your stomach is too acidic or something. Of course, it'll make you fart a bit, but hey, that sorts things out.
V2-V1 gives you your titre. That's about all I can remember.

Oh and do a trial one to see when the colour change is about to happen and then just drop it in slowly.

Oh, chemistry. Theres a good reason I dropped it.

are you talking about emesis and bile salivation using a fancy term as 'acid reflux'?
is this just the thing where you burp and almost feel sick/feel the sick coming up?
the doctor told me that's what i had, although i thought it was heartburn, he gave me some pills to take, twice a day and I haven't really suffered since!

Ranitidine, they're called, have you been to see the doctor?

I get it sometimes, and while milk is a base, you'd have to drink a helluva lot to get it to counter the acid. One glass alone does not do the trick for me, and by then, I'm pretty sick of milk.

You can alleviate it by taking rolaids or tums (if they have a different name in the UK, someone should correct me), which are little tablets/chews that counter the acid.

You can prevent it by avoiding foods that commonly cause it - oily, fatty, fried foods are common causes, as are tomato products and, for me, complex carbohydrates like bread.

If it is really bad all the time, go to the doctor and he can recommend something more hardcore and/or give you a prescription.

Acid reflux is when acid from the stomach goes into the oesophagus and it hurts...

Emesis is a fancy term for vomitting...

and I've never heard of bile salivation before...

As for treatments... You can take ant-acids that neutralise the acid... Basically taking an alkali...

Or you can get things like ranitidine that reduce the secretion of acid by the stomach...

Gaviscons supposed to be good for temporary quick relief. However if its happening a lot try something like ranitidine. You can buy it over the counter (or in smaller packs just off the shelves) to try however the one from the doctor is stronger!
I would have thought your diet might affect this. I knew this guy that ate loads of strong spicy flavoured crisps and other crap and was permanently taking ant acids.
Acid Reflux is what people say when they have heartburn and are trying to sound posh. Basically, stomach acid goes up into your oesophagus. Just pop down to Boots and take something for it.

Not really. Acid reflux is what I say when the acid comes all the way into my throat/mouth and I can feel it/taste it there.

If the sensation is not a burning in/around my heart, I don't say heartburn. Nothing 'posh' about that imo.

don't be ridiculous, heartburn is the symptom, acid reflux is the condition which often causes it. and if you wanted to sound posh you would say gastroesophageal reflux disease:p:

to the op - go to your gp, you can get proton pump inhibitors. and cut down on the coffee and cigarettes, if you need to!
Isn't it true that milk is in actual fact bad for heartburn? Milk = protein and you need an acid medium for protein processing so you're only increasing acidity?

Thanks for the help everyone, have gone and got some Gaviscon. Lisa xxx

I'm sure Gaviscon will only help temporarily.

I was prescribed Omeprazole for acid reflux and it was great. And one of my friends also takes this regularly and long-term because her acid reflux can't be taken away with diet change.
Miss Lisa
Just wondered does anyone else suffer from this and what do you do to alleviate it? Thanks Lisa xxx

yeah, i get it quite bad quite alot, usually at night when i'm trying to get to sleep. i think its more because of my odd eating habits really.
I personally just crunch down a couple of tums, but gaviscon is the top stuff (pricey though if bought without a prescription).

Other people mentioned ranitidine and omeprazole. Now i know they are just pills, but if you start now then you'll probably end up on then ad infinitum.
Hence why i've avoided starting on them myself. [i don't want to be on regular medication till i'm at least 50.!!!]

But each to their own ey.
I take ranitidine for it but i have one of the more serious side effects where i can go about 2 days without feeling hungry or even being able to force feed myself even once. For this i have to be weighed regularly. The doctor told me to stick with it though. Genetics is the reason i have it and i'm 15. Avoid fast food also as this worsens the amount of acid your stomach produces. Also, sleep with an extra pillow, a acid should not rise back up your system this way. Finaly, have more bland food, avoiding food with high fat, sugar or carbohydrate. Try wholegrain rice and more vegetables. Hope some of thsi helped. x
