Was there any big mistake that you made that you wish you could have avoided, if only you knew about it?

(Example: missing a lecture or two due to lack of sleep - can have quite a bad impact afterwards, etc. Not the best example. T_T)

Academically I really messed up my finance module. It was a module that started in the second semester and because it was taught in the form of 2 hour lectures first thing on a Tuesday morning, I think I only went to about 3 of them and there were 10 in total... I also went to about 2 of the workshops for it. This led to me trying to learn the entire module from scratch 2 days before the exam and as I didn't do accounting at A level, I was doomed and likely just about scraped a pass in the exam!

Socially, I should have joined more societies. Joining your subject society doesn't count!!!! The best way to meet people is by joining loads of societies at the start and then continuing with the ones that you actually enjoy. I also didn't go out as much as I should have because I got into a relationship, don't regret the relationship but regret spending too much time on it.
I heard that sheffiled has a lot of steep hills, is that true and do you get used to it?
What's a week in the life of an economics student? (Include nights out)

I'm doing Bsc economics as well.

Also what was freshers week like?

Yes it does. Combine this with the fact that lectures are usually a 20 minute walk and it can be pretty annoying! You get used to it within like 2 weeks honestly, only thing I'd say though is that you might want to invest in some proper shoes that are good for walking in. I had two pairs of canvas shoes which were completely wrecked by the end of the year

OK so you'll typically have 12-14 contact hours per week which includes lectures, workshops and tutorials. I'd say my attendance was about 75% throughout the year, maybe less actually.

Nights out really depend. Like I said in another reply, I didn't really go out much at all after about November but these are what people typically go to

Monday: DQ
Tuesday: Tuesday Club (This will be right up your street if you're into the house scene and taking illegal substances)
Wednesday: Corporation (On Wednesday's it's a school disco so everybody goes in school uniform) OR ROAR (if you're in a sports team you'll go to this, it's the student union night)
Thursday: Plug or Leadmill
Friday: Anywhere, Plug is good though
Saturday: Pop Tarts (This is the student union's biggest night, tickets for this go on sale on Monday and usually sell out the same day)

You'll probably join the economics society too, they do something like once every 2 months. Usually a bar crawl consisting of overpriced bars ending at a club nobody wants to be at. Meh, other subject societies are much better from what I've seen.

Freshers week is crazy, I still rate my first day at uni as the best day of my life so far! I think we went to clubs 4 nights and pubs or the casino on the others, looking forward to doing it again

Tickets come out for union events the day after A level results day, but I never got them, I just turned up and went to where my flat was going. You risk having a load of tickets to events know one you know is going to otherwise
What other universities did you apply to?
Which accommodation do you live in?

I didn't and I don't suggest anybody does, especially the "Icebreaker" event that was heavily advertised on our freshers facebook page. When it gets closer to the events people will be selling tickets on the facebook page for literally half the price.

I applied to Bristol, Nottingham, York, and UEA. My firm choice was Bristol.

Because Sheffield was my insurance choice, I was put into Stephenson Halls which are shared bathroom and catered.
