interview at barts and the london

hi there.
i got an invitation for an interview last week. although i'm preparing well for it, i still think there could be a few questions that they might ask about.

does anyone know the health problems faced by the East end? i've tried looking on Bart's NHS website and still cant seem to find about the diseases affecting the community.

For anyone who has just had an interview there or has been invited for one in the near future, have you got any tips for others?

any help will be appreciated.
thanks

i know the east end has a high proportion of immigrants.
shall i be reading about diseases such as TB? any other problems which affect that area?
how about cardiovascular problems?
thanks

Well, seriously tell me what you think - google those terms along with 'East End' if needs be and work out if you think they are significant, and WHY you think so...

I might even see you at interview   When is it?

How's your Turkish..?

Language barriers are rife, but given that probably 60% of our students have a second, third and fourth language that is usually Asian in derevation...

If it comes up, mention it, but I wouldn't engineer any discussion specifically in that direction...

Darn it, I don't, it's English and Deutsch for me :p: . Ah well, probably won't get an interview anyway.

Nope - Homerton, Hackney etc all very Turkish areas...

I'm way out of touch with London Life and when I worked there they had me working for a firm that covered 'London' as opposed to 'City'. This meant that the only really deprived area I ever visited was poor rather than ethnically specialised.
However, a cautionary tale about making assumptions over language. The UK and the USA are two countries divided by a 'common' language.
The standard Newcastle med school joke about this is...
Consultant ward round Consultant. Well, Geordie, you're doing very well. We'll have you walking soon.
Geordie Workin'? Hell man ar can hardli wark.
Geordie for walking warkin.
Geordie for working workin.
