    Hello everyone,

I dropped French after GCSE and am about to enter my third year of an English degree - but I'm also going to continue French as an aside from post-GCSE, or start Spanish from nothing. So what do you think makes French a good language to learn?

I think you have to look at your reasons for taking it at GCSE in the first place- did you enjoy the grammar? Did you like the way it sounded? Did you think it was the most useful, i.e. if you wanted to visit France?

People like languages for different reasons. I personally like French just because I find it so interesting, and the grammar too. I would say that it will probably be easier to continue with French than to take up Spanish from scratch, so it might be a better option.

Hi everyone. Currently doing AS french. Just though i'd come here for a bit of vocab. Was watching French tv today and they seemed to use "Ca marche?" quite a lot. The context seemed to mean it would come across as "is that ok?" but i'm not quite sure - would I be right?

It's slightly informal, I understood it to mean: "How are things going?", but they use "marcher" to mean to "work", or "to go well"; so it could mean "Does that work for you?" i.e.- "Is that alright?".
