Hello Everybody!

My English teacher started working on dissertation work with our class. I need to pick two books either with the same theme or by the same author to do a compere and contrast type of dissertation. I have a few books in mind, however I don't know what books to match them with, so I do be grateful for any sort of advice and help.

Books I have considered:
The Awakening by Kate Chopin
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Any sort of suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Hi,
I've read The Awakening- so can't help with that one.

But you could link Madam Bovary and Vanity Fair by William Thackery- both about social climbing and with a strong female protagonist. (It's a pretty long novel though- and a bit laborious to get through).

And for Jane Eyre a good comparison is Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys- it's a prequel to Bronte's original book, put puts a greater emphasis on race relations. It's a really interesting read- and makes you look at Jane Eyre in a completely different light.

Good luck!
