Hey there,

My names Kate and I'm the official rep for Staffs Uni here on TSR.

Have you applied to us or are you still thinking about it?

What are you worried about exactly in terms of the area...? There's responses in this thread about what university life is like. You can also read our student blogs which give you some good insight into life at Staffs. You can also check out the TSR FAQ for more info on nightlife and venues etc.

If there's anything you want to know about in more details let me know

Katie

Thank you for replying.
Are the areas surrounding Stoke on Trent 'safe' to travel, when going to placements? Also what are the crime levels around the campus like?
I haven't applied yet, bu have narrowed my choices down to 3 universities:-)

Hi, I'm a student at Staffs studying Journalism. Now although parts of Stoke aren't the best places to live the area around the university, (which is where you will be living and socialising if you choose to come here) including the train station to go home get to placements etc, are perfectly safe. Every place has crime, Stoke doesn't have more than your average city really, and in my two years here I've known very few students feel unsafe or come in contact with crime in the area. If you've got any more questions feel free to give me a shout!

Hi, i also go to staffs (going into my 3rd year) and i can defiantly agree with the above comment! Unfortunately any place where there is a large population of students you're always going to have some issues through your time at university! What with all the alcohol etc, things can sometimes get a bit out of hand! I know the campus security (who will look after you during your first year whilst you settle in) are brilliant, from my own experience if you have any issues they are there in under 5 minutes.
During my second year i lived in the Shelton estate just parallel to the university and to be honest it is a bit rough, as in i personally wouldn't walk alone at night through certain streets, although the crime rate doesn't reflect this as it is fairly low but you can't be too cautious!

http://www.police.uk/staffordshire/IE30/crime/ --See this link for all reported crime in the area of Shelton.

I hope this helped, whatever you decide all the best for your studies!

Hi
I'm a student at staffs, I moved to Stoke from Essex (outskirts of London) and haven't had any trouble what so ever. As mentioned you get crime anywhere but I've never felt scared or threatened. The only time anything would ever happen is if people go looking for trouble.
